1) clear statement of learning goals for the teaching demo; 2) assessment of learning goals through some mechanism at the end of the demo; 3) straightforward way to address any gaps revealed by the assessment for students to achieve learning goals
3 times traveling overseas in march, Iβve been faced with breaking or early geopolitical issues: 2020 was covid, 2022 was Ukraine, and now in 2026 war in the Middle East. First time I canceled, second time I went, third timeβ¦?
Fabulous day with @drchriskellogg.bsky.social and @viromegirl.bsky.social at the Mote Marine Lab International Coral Genetic Bank near Sarasota today!
Awesome to speak at the University of South Floridaβs College of Marine Science today. Amazing set of meetings and great to chat with grad students as well!

Haha sadly no. Fun fact, always had terrifying or weird dreams even with run of the mill white or portabello mushrooms!
Mushrooms for dinner and puppy videos before going to sleep. Retrieving the puppies from the trawls was cute. Then for some reason was hung up on an ag inspector saying there would be a 14 day quarantine before I could bring them back to Ithaca.
Just had a dream that we were doing deep sea trawls for giant sea urchins (like 50lb test ones), and also Labrador puppies which thrive at 2,000m.
Cool. Can I get a refund of $5.49 I paid in tariffs on some frozen sea urchins for research?
Will do thanks Hannah!
Field and lab classes are probably not possible in this scenario, it should be lecture based (no funding for these), and attract at least a dozen students. Open to ideas!
I have a working background in organismal biology, marine ecology, phycology, and coastal ecology. Biological oceanography is also well in my wheelhouse. I have taught grad level viral ecology, grad level intro to marine studies, and an intro to micro class for non majors (very 40,000ft).
Iβve been asked to teach a second class in marine science in addition to my long standing marine diseases class. Anyone have any ideas? Or would be willing to share syllabi for marine classes taught at other institutions? My βexpertiseβ is marine microbiology, biogeochemistry

Wait so Obama just said that aliens are real. What?
Normally after first written offer, and to second that they might try and get info out of you during interview (which is illegal). A common thing is theyβll comment on wedding rings, or a spouse at a dinner will ask directly.
This is actually from a post from the president.

Nice to see this published! TBT when I was focused almost exclusively on viral discovery:

An airline security card but instead of oxygen masks, it's squid. Just roll with it.
Secure your own squid first before helping others.

The distance between truth and reality has become an abyss
Iβve always wanted to do a comparison between coral larvae settlement and the settlement of stuff on empty lab benches.
Empirically worked out that the courier that starts with D and ends in HL is one of the most unreliable, confusing, and painful companies to work with. 3 weeks in transit for overnight?
