Who is standing in the way of producing more hydrocarbons? Someone should ask Wright about this graph.
Trump and Wright are in charge. Why is fracked oil production going down?
Because they are running out of it.
@oilfieldwitness
We are methane hunters and movement organizers. We use optical gas imaging to expose the dirty secrets of oil and gas. We leverage this intelligence to educate the public and policy makers to strengthen climate movements. www.oilfieldwitness.org

Corporate broadcast coverage of climate change fell 35% in the last year, even as Trump systemically dismantled climate policy and billion-dollar disasters rose
The gradual deprioritization led NBC climate reporter Chase Cain to hit a breaking point, and he quit last week
Here's our interview:
Well, to be fair to them, I don't know of any other organization that shares that message other than us. We would love help getting out the truth against the propaganda.
US LNG is a dirty fossil fuel, not a climate solution.
Phase it out, it can't be cleaned up.
Learning that only 6% of methane emissions are leaks. The rest are intentional or part of standard operation.
Learning that the US doesn't have endless supplies of cheap gas waiting to be exported.
Learning that Dem senators are calling for a limit on LNG exports to control US prices.
@txsharon.bsky.social just got back from the EU where she met with EU politicians to educate them on the emissions and economic realities of US LNG.
It got their attention. And current nat gas prices in the EU are likely helping it sink in.
We also could stop dumping it into the atmosphere. It only lasts for 12 or so years unlike CO2 which lasts for thousands.

We need to reverse the graph. Fast.
bar chart showing methane emissions from US Oil and gas production rising significantly from 2023 to 2024.
The US leads the world in methane emissions from oil and gas production. And the total amount of emissions keeps going up based on the data from the IEA.
Donβt believe them when they say itβs inevitable.
In sum, we have real, winning economic messages about cost and corruption. 65% of Americans already think climate is affecting their costs.
Thatβs public opinion in its natural state, no thanks to us.
More about why methane matters.
Have you heard about ongoing climate-killing methane spill in the Permian?
"Emissions of methane are the leading driver of climate change. The Texas Permian Basin oil field emits 410 metric tons of methane 24 hours a day."
Last week Justin wrote about Mexican gas dependence, LNG export plans and how Mexico is missing an opportunity to rapidly move to solar power.
The NRDC highlights the risks of one of the proposed LNG export facilities in Mexico that would export dirty Permian methane (natural gas).
Carney Allowed Gas-powered AI Data Centres After Lobbying From Alberta Energy Company
Something tells me this Carney moment isn't going to go as viral as the last one.....

βIn Texas, thereβs less of a pervasive concern for emissions,β he said. βGrid reliability is the primary focus among policymakers.β
Probably an understatement when it comes to Texas.
Always a good point to remember about oil and gas pollution.
"it is generally considered that the only absolutely safe concentration for benzene is zero."
from The American Petroleum Institute, 1948.
Well done!
Important point.
βBecause banks get paid early in the LNG risk cycle, they are incentivized towards boosterism rather than acknowledging weak market fundamentals or shaky environmental claims,β Sambasivam said.
Just 20 years ago, coal produced over half the electricity in the United States while wind and solar produced only 1%. Last year, coal was only 16% of the mix with renewables at 24% and growing.
Never let anyone convince you that huge change canβt come quickly.
Big grassroots win:
Brazil has revoked a decree placing sections of 3 Amazonian rivers β the TapajΓ³s, Madeira & Tocantins β under a state-led privatization program
#Indigenous groups had protested the plan for 33 days by blockading a Cargill grain port in SantarΓ©m in the western Brazilian Amazon:
In addition to rolling back all climate and environmental regulations in the US, the current administration is actively trying to force the rest of the world to do the same. Shipping regs, EU methane regs, etc, etc.

A big "however" from the Canadians on emissions from gas-powered data centers.
"However, Nembhard added, 'data centres with their own power generation, not connected to the commercial grid, would not be covered by the [regulation].'
"It seems logically impossible to set standards for methane if the EPA's argument in its recent rule rescinding the endangerment finding succeeds," Harvard Law School's Environmental and Energy Law Programme director, Jody Freeman, says.
"With rising electric costs drawing public frustration, developers are beginning to pursue ulterior power options, which can bring additional pollutants in turn....Many data centers use diesel generators as backup power, which are particularly strong pollutants."
New report out on the many risks to investors in Canadian LNG projects. @justinmikulka.bsky.social reviewed the draft report and provided feedback.
Just realised I missed off part of @oilfieldwitness.bsky.social's handle in the post below. Absolutely the account to follow if you want the picture on the full horror of oil & gas pollution.
"At this time, Ichthys LNG was experiencing both planned maintenance and an unplanned safety shutdown, the latter due to a flare issue that had been detected in late August."
Maintenance, safety, etc. Many reasons to just dump methane and other toxins into the atmosphere. Who is stopping them?
