Used to think that formative assessment and assessment for learning were the same thing. They're obviously similar, and there are overlaps, but yeah. Being able to understand each of them separately has helped me choose better ways to assess students.

There is so much to the book I hope it doesn't feel rushed as a film.

If a recession hits and jobs become scarce, then education has failed them? Seems a bit harsh, no?

Smart move. So strange how it was ever longer than a year in the first place

There seems to be revival of the education blogs and I am loving it. Education books probably have had their time

A revival of the grassroots education communities would be brilliant thing too. With the way social media is used now, it's harder to establish such groups though.

I find teachers very defensive about this. But when I ask them do they think their driving has improved over the last 10 years they admit it probably hasn't.

If anyone on #edchatie has a genuine interest in improving their practice this is the place to go. Awkward time for Irish teachers to go but I've gone twice and presented at it once and still use what I learned there.

The thing many people don't understand about Rosenshine principles is that they work so much better in a system. #edchatie

I read aloud in every science class. The opportunity cost is so low. Been at it a year and a half now and can't ever go back. #edchatie

I just always wonder do students make the right choice in such a scaffolded environment. After a year of college and being more independent I think reality hits students (and maybe parents) more about what is right path of study for them.

The CAO is hard to get right, easy to get so wrong

Do you think broader first-year courses would be better or help? Spread (or push) the assessment pressure into college when students are more certain where they want their direction of study to go?

Questions on content put together on PowerPoint in coloured grids. Typically questions in red squares are more difficult and get more points. Reduces opportunity for effective feedback and very workload heavy.

The use of dual coding and retrieval grids are probably the worst ive seen. Been guilty of grids in the past. Some People have been using cog sci for last 7 years. Definitely best to touch base with those

Adopted a system of teaching that uses it for their whole practice. Use formative assessment continually. Drops the variation in their practice.

Did it by regular zoom calls, sharing practice and offering and receiving direct feedback

I've only seen a handful of teachers properly use cog sci. If it's to be used properly then the system of teaching has to change I feel.

Cog load is all about recognising the limitations of working memory.

Talking over PowerPoints. Notes that have no clear direction. Putting comprehension pieces on one side of page and questions on the other. Waffle explanations.

And not teaching the fundamentals first before moving on.

It's everywhere once you recognise it.
