Teaching people hyperbole before teaching them anger management is probably a pretty solid contributing factor to the unhealthy way people communicate online.
The prosecution rest its case.
CanCon covers althistory (I should know, y'all keep putting me on those panels). One or more cup going to Canada after 1993 is definitely althistory :p
You're awesome and I miss you guys :)
I know ostracism. I was ostracized. No one deserves that, and those who suggest its use as punishment are little better than advocates of punitive torture.
Cutting off someone may well be necessary for self-protection, but that's a whole other story than fantasizing about ostracism as punishment.
6.8/10 even more water.
I resent the pivot to video so much. I do not want to become an "on air personality." I do not want to boil everything down into little pithy viral slogans. I don't want to worry about my f'ing hair. I hate it all. Hate it.
"Loser keeps Bieber" style good rivalry fun like in the previous NHL olympics requires trust and a measure of respect that is gone now. I don't know what it will take to rebuild it.
Without that trust, rivalry fast become hate.
There is no such thing as a fun rivalry with a bully. Never has been, never will be.
Beating the bully just means he doubles down on the bullying to make you pay, and losing to him just gives him ammunition for more bullying.
Either way, you lose.
Connor McDavid is about to be the most hated man in Canada.
sorry (not sorry) if this is a hot take, but I've seen conversation today about creators who are forced out of online spaces due to overzealous fan pressure, and I guess some people are suggesting that creators need to "not care" but you know what I think
fans need to chill the fuck out
fully
No single step forward defeated fascists of the past. It was an accumulation of steps, big and small, that ultimately led to the downfall. Years of steps, in fact.
Negating those steps because you're sad mad whatever is counterproductive to the end goal.
Marathon, not a sprint.
I understand everyone's drowning in misery, but every push back against his regime is progress even if it doesn't feel like it. Countering every bit of good news with a bunch of WHY IT DOESN'T MATTER REALLY demoralizes people. Demoralized people? Stop fighting. Consider this a moment.
Trying to treat social media as this sacred public square where everyone's thoughts must be shown to everyone was such nonsense. Social media is here to entertain and inform me. If you're doing neither, onto the block list you go without a second thought.
BEGONE FOUL DWIMMERLAIK, LORD OF CARRION!
(Me, having a perfectly normal reaction to M365 Copilot greeting me as I open my computer)
That's indeed a beautiful way of referring to the arrestee formerly known as prince.
The AI bubble RAM crisis is caused for non-existent problems by non-existent money for a non-existent infrastructure to meet non-existent demand to make non-existent business and will utterly destroy real business based on real demand and real infrastructure built with real money for real problems.
Gang.
GANG.
LLM DETECTORS ARE ALSO LLMs AND PRONE TO THE EXACT SAME ERRORS.
STOP USING THEM.
They’re the “may contain nuts/dairy/gluten/soy” of writing, and I think as poorly of those who object to one as the other.
Content notes or warnings let people decide whether they are ready to read what follows. We have to care about readers because we don’t know what they’ve gone through in their lives. They are not spoilers but an act of compassion. I appreciate people who include them in books, emails, and posts.
i saw this on the other site but it summarizes the problem i see on all social media. this isn't even a new phenomenon - it's just gotten worse
i think it's important that fandom puritans that clutch their pearls over things they find "problematic" know that they've contributed to a lot of censorship policies that we see today as well as the mandatory IDs policies under the guise of "for the children"
Dear Google: yes, I actually prefer an "ordinary" phone over one whose main purpose is to give me questionable advice and dubious information while sounding like it knows what it's talking about.
Getting so tired of their gemini phone ads.
As a reminder, any attempt to use any trait, characteristic, identity, experience or way of being that I share as justification or excuse for someone's horrible actions will be treated as if you were saying I can't be expected to not do the horrible thing.
IE, a personal insult of the worst sort.
Great local reporting on an unprecedented, ominous situation in El Paso
elpasomatters.org/2026/02/11/u...
In my high school the jocks were okay people (some of them even were nerds too - one of the hockey player even joined our trivia club!). Not the best (that was the music kids), but not the worst.
The local geeks, though, were absolutely heartless.
There's a very real problem with social media and algorithm-feeding websites.
But there's also a lot of loud, domineering attention-cravers who are upset at not being the centre of attention anymore, and using the former as an excuse to drag down anything that threaten their social domination.
So all the little judgemental nonsense about phones and cutting yourself out from the world?
The alternative, in my case, is staying home/in my room where it's *not* overwhelming. Which would cut myself out from the world a whole lot more.
And I will judge your ableist nonsense right back.
(AKA "I'm sorry @mchoule.bsky.social , but the Discourse on the Difficulties of Sausage-Making As A Hobby" *is not something I can use to keep myself from getting overwhelmed)
(Emotional support conversation are NOT, I will add, a stake problem. The challenge with them is empathy overwhelm).
