Hey, remember a few weeks ago when I said this game is "a keenly-observed look at young adult life/love in the early 2000s" and also "the writing is exceptional, balancing wry humor with raw emotional honesty?" No? Well, it's still true, except now the game's on sale. SUPPORT INDIE DEVS!

Resident Evil is sadly no stranger to this sort of trope with its character and monster designs either. It's a lazy way of trying to express fear through an outdated idea of what we shouldn't want our bodies to look like.

ALT: a man wearing sunglasses is covering his nose with his hand .
Turns out a big depressive episode is a weirdly good time to rewatch every piece of Evangelion media out there. And I'm getting into the manga for the first time as a cherry on top.
Yoko Taro helming the new series brought this fixation back with a vengeance...

I've been jumping between PS5 Pro and trying out path tracing on PC and man it's gorgeous. The evolution we've seen in the RE Engine from RE2 Remake to Requiem is really stunning.

You know what, Resident Evil: Requiem? Fatness isn't scary
Body shape shouldn't be a punchline either, by the way
i know why game devs keep doing this with enemy design ("acceptable" target, shouldn't be but it is) and i hope, sometime in my lifetime, it ends. remember the boomer in l4d? what if we gave him a backstory file about how he was trying to lose weight? re: requiem! www.mothership.blog/you-know-wha...

The Gamer Network acquisition has been such a disaster. So many amazing folks in games media now out of work and the landscape doesn't seem to be getting any better.
Staples of gaming journalism being sliced to pieces trying to pursue traffic goals that just aren't realistic anymore.

Resident Evil Requiem's Return To Raccoon City Is Almost Everything I Wanted It To Be
Capcom delivers its most nuanced combination of action and horror yet with Resident Evil Requiem.
Resident Evil Requiem combines utterly terrifying horror with action so ridiculous it had me smiling like a fool.
And somehow, despite some pacing missteps and a couple of irksome flaws, it all works. #ResidentEvilRequiem

The pacing between Leon and Grace isn't as effective as it could be, but it's easy to forgive when their playstyles are so fun.
Leon feels pulled from the most ridiculous moments found in Resi 4 while Grace is more akin to the original game without such excessive camp. They're a perfect pair.

This feels like the formula that Capcom has been chasing for the past decade as it brings games like Village and the remakes together into a singular timeline that just works.
It also has the most realistic spider I've ever seen in a video game so NO THANK YOU.

SEASON ONE DONE.
The finale focusing once again on the idea of protecting your own life and others that are close to you even if itβs so hard to open up and let yourself be vulnerable really hit me. Even in the hardest of circumstances try to keep on going β€οΈ

The sense of place is wonderful, the dialogue is endearingly cringe, and I want to see where this goes just so long as our nostalgia for such a core queer story isnβt abused for the wrong reasons.

I love how they talk about their break-up like mature adults while still clearly harbouring immense feelings for one another, but I hope the story isnβt just building up to another choice of Max having to choose between Chloe or a community sheβs come to love.
Reunion needs to be more than that.

Life is Strange: Reunion Might Just Be The Perfect Antidote To Double Exposure
Max Caulfield and Chloe Price return in this long-awaited supernatural sequel.
Iβm still conflicted about whether Life is Strange: Reunion bringing Chloe Price and Max Caulfield back together is the right choice or simply an attempt to capitalise on the nostalgia of a classic sapphic story.

Throughout it all, even when things went bad, Spencer clearly understood games as a medium, a profession, and a business. Having an Actual Game Guy at the top of a big gaming company is far rarer than it should be, and while there was a lot of facade to Spencer β particularly towards the end, when he used faux-candour and his gaming credentials to try to mask the godawful shitfest he had spawned β I imagine this is the aspect of him we will come to miss the most. Heartening though it is to at last see a woman in the big chair in this most historically blokey of industries, I do not see much in Asha Sharmaβs track record to suggest things are about to get better. (And thatβs before we get into all the birthrater stuff.)
So, yeah. Phil was a good bloke, and he did some good stuff. I believe his heart was in the right place right up until the end β but unfortunately for him, and the rest of us, Microsoft these days is no place for hearts. Letβs have a quick look at the three big moments where, to my mind, it all went wrong for Phil Spencer.

The Pitt hyperfixation is sinking into my veins and it's only partially thanks to this ray of sunshine.
God it's so good though, I'm a huge fan of Doctor Robby being like an NPC who spawns in whenever it seems convenient.
