A woman dressed in traditional Japanese festival clothing plays a flute beneath three illuminated paper lanterns. The scene is bathed in red, with floral embroidery visible on the wall behind her.

Red. Breath. Melody.

Thank you so much! Feel free to explore the gallery, you might find something else you enjoy. (Watching Minneapolis and the US closely from Switzerland, and standing with those calling for dignity and justice.)

A festival game stall in Japan filled with bright green watermelon plush toys and colorful fruit prizes. A vendor sits behind the counter, partially surrounded by the toys, looking out while festival lights illuminate the scene.

Festivals are loud. The people inside them often aren’t.

A fracture you don’t hear.

Shot in a geopark, on the quiet remains of a volcanic eruption.
I was drawn by the solitude of the woman at the edge of the bank, as if she were making room for absence itself.

After a pause, I return with one of my favorite shots.
People pass, leave echoes, become silhouettes.

I don’t chase the grand scene. I listen for the quiet pulse beneath it, the heartbeat of a festival when no one sees the lens.

In the neons of Osaka, she stands. A modern machi musume, echoing centuries of women who’ve worked this city’s twilight. Her expression asks: what is duty, what is performance, what is survival? and who gets to name them? #StreetPhotography #Osaka #Nights #Japan

Hard to pick a favorite with so many amazing shots… but this one might be one of your very best!

A pink-haired girl facing a wall of gachapon machines. For me, it’s an image of a uniquely Japanese kind of solitude. What story do you see here? #StreetPhotography #Japan #CandidMoments #Gachapon #UrbanLife

Thanks (again) ! I’m still trying to find my own style.. I definitely see some common ground in how we both look for unseen stories. Let’s keep shooting!

Thanks a lot! This is actually one of my favorite shots too. At the same time, I always hesitate a bit when capturing and sharing moments of sadness. It feels delicate to make it the subject. But there’s something raw and real about it that I just couldn’t ignore.

Gion Matsuri again… Chasing the raw energy of the moment, the sweat, the pride of carrying on a historical tradition. Can you feel the pulse of this place?

For a split second, the mask of the festival dropped. Amid the bright colors and playful prizes, her expression revealed something deeperβ€”fatigue, boredom, or a fleeting thought? As I looked up from my viewfinder, she was smiling at me. Just like that, the moment was gone.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Funny that you mention solitudeβ€”this image is actually part of a series I’ve been working on for some time about solitude in Japan.

Thanks a lot! This scene caught my eyeβ€”what do you think stands out the most?

Glad you like it! Haha, not quiteβ€”no geisha here, just someone enjoying a quiet moment in a summer yukata. But I love the alliteration!

Gion Matsuri (Kyoto’s summer festival) is filled with traditional music and grand processions of portable shrinesβ€”but I was drawn to this quiet moment. The way the umbrella catches the light, the contrast between the warm lanterns and the cool rain… #StreetPhotography #Japan #Kyoto #Rain #Atmosphere

For my first post on Bluesky, a moment of Osaka nightlifeβ€”quiet, blue, and contemplative. To me, street photography often reveals unseen stories. Here, under the neon glow, duty meets solitude. #Photography #StreetPhotography #Japan #NightLife #BlueHour #FirstPost
