I do understand wanting to honor and be proud of Puerto Rican culture, struggle, and national identity, and fearing it would be lost should PR become a state… but I don’t think independence fixes much of anything for the island, really.
Was thinking this last night. Seems like some exclusively online leftists want Puerto Ricans to play out some revolutionary fantasy for them & don’t actually care what the people of PR want. From my POV, statehood gives PR the most opportunity to address the myriad of issues the island has.
puerto rico should become a state because they’d probably be a swing vote in the EC and the feds would shower them in appropriations
