My mother just learned who Andrew Scott is and now she's reading all his credits to me

Like, if you want a webpage up and an email out tomorrow, don't send me the copy at 4:30 pm!

I'm running on 2 hours sleep, having the stupidest crash out anyone has ever had, and all my colleagues have decided that after 4 pm is when they want to start sending me urgent things that need to get taken care of today

Did something slightly insane and then so stupid I feel physically ill. Being a person is terrible

Aside from Willow being one of those movies I saw so young that it's always just there in my consciousness, I also once saw Val Kilmer at BAM, where he was wearing a whimsically large hat. It's such a cherished "things that happen in NYC" memory for me, and more so now

Definitely 7. An empty seat next to me, and I could lean forward to talk with Isaac about books or backwards to talk to (or just overhear) Mr. Ajayi and Mr. Farouk. 10/10 travel experience

Decided to hurt my own feelings by rewatching The Hunger Games and Catching Fire, and the change to how Katniss gets the mockingjay pin is a real hard slap in the face now

Everybody is watching The Pitt, but I am watching the newest episode of Doctor Odyssey, which is called Shark Attack! Part 2: Orca! so I know what gets my vote for the best medical drama on tv right now

Happy Birthday!

(And it's All About My Mother, but also you have an amazing "P" selectionβ€”Paddington 2, Phantom Thread, The Prestige and Pride; all iconic)

My favorite genres are...

5. Nothing is happening, but pretty

4. Lovable rogues get out of a sticky situation using trickery and hijinks

3. This could be solved with a throuple

2. Gut-wrenchingly sad ending even though technically everyone is fine

1. Technicolor

Not to be "cringe" or "basic" or "having a sincerely positive feeling about something", but I really enjoyed the Oscar ceremony. Almost every movie I thought deserved recognition got some, Conan was funny, it was nice to have a few hours to focus on something besides psychopathic politicians. Bravo.

Spent half an hour this morning trying to get my work laptop to allow me to log in. And now that I'm finally in it won't open my email. 9:30 am on Monday and I've already had enough for the week, time for the weekend again

Age yourself with a movie you saw in the theater

Every time I finish proofing something I get another email with something else to proof. Have I died? Is this purgatory?

a man carrying a backpack walks in a living room Alt: A teenage carrying a backpack walks in a living room and falls face down onto the floor

You ever find your happiness and sanity reliant on one (1) single thing, and then that thing ends

I often joke that if I die in a plane crash I just hope it's on the way back so at least I got to have my vacation, but I'm going to Denmark and Sweden this spring and for real, if I die it better be on the way home

Why The Oscars Are Completely Wrong About Emilia PΓ©rez (And What You Should Actually Watch) - SlashFilm Crime musical Emilia PΓ©rez scored 13 nominations at the 2025 Oscars, demonstrating just how out of touch the Academy is with marginalized communities.

I used my irritation about the Emilia PΓ©rez nomination record to talk about 11 trans films released in 2024 worth watching instead.

The Future of the Movies, Part 4: The Necessity of Discovery | Features | Roger Ebert On how critics and film lovers need to look off the beaten path to ensure the future of the form.

"The future of cinema lies in rekindling the necessity of discovery."

For this @ebertvoices.bsky.social future of the movies, I wrote about the need to find some way to write about small films and new filmmakers.
