wishing a very SLEEP WITH ONE EYE OPEN to all other anti-trans Democrats nervously looking ahead to their own primaries
Oh boy, as a trans person, if this doesn't hit home right now
The best refutation to grind culture mentality is a gold medal.
in 2023 when I was organizing parents against our archbishopβs transphobic new school guidelines, one dad asked how loud I thought it was prudent for us to be, given how punitive the Archbishop is. I was like βloud enough that all the trans/nb kids at your parish see itβ and he was like ββ¦. ohβ

It's corny as hell but the solution to fascism is loving thy neighbor

Jayapal: To the survivors in the room, if you are willing, please stand. And if you are willing, please raise your hands. If you have still not been able to meet with this DOJ. Please note for the record that every single survivor has raised their hand.
hatred of unhoused people is genuinely a pipeline to fascism. if the wealthy can get you to dehumanize your own neighbors, then they can get you to do it to anyone.
just an update from when we talked to the reporter: weβve now successfully connected over 100 families for direct, peer to peer rent adoption. weβve collected and immediately distributedβ¦a lot.
it is a drop in the bucket, but all of this is. everyone is just doing what they can.
we need to talk about that Ring Super Bowl ad
Need a cat called Henri Meowen
Violating hospitality is one of the oldest proscriptions across so many cultures.
Eviction moratorium would sure be a tangible way to help change the world, by helping save the people who are busy saving the world.
I keep seeing posts going "when ICE comes to MY city, we'll be out in the streets even harder" and man, I get that sentiment but I need everyone to understand that the work in Minneapolis is partly confrontational but MORE IMPORTANTLY aaallll the stuff organized in the background to help neighbors
100%. I honestly believe political leaders ask too little of people. The thinking is you need an extraordinarily low bar - so ask people for money or to sign something. People want to be part of something and they're eager to do real meaningful work in defense of their community and their rights.
ok the full clip is way better than the little one going around. her whole team try to get her to bail on the event and she's like no, I came to speak. incredible example.
oh no a hero database
the last year has left me with unending faith in the courage of ordinary people and bottomless contempt for the fecklessness of our ruling class
The people of Minnesota have executed one of the most impressive civil resistance campaigns I can remember:
- Organized a city wide general strike
- Maintained nonviolent discipline amidst violence
- Mobilized 10,000s in subzero temps to protest and watch ICE
- Flipped public opinion against ICE
The majority of organizing happening in Minnesota isnβt just peaceful, itβs INVISIBLE. Moms showing up who wonβt be interviewed on TV, people whose ICE patrols donβt turn into viral video. The grocery runs, the donations, the people filming bc they happen to be there. Please remember this.
They don't care what you believe. They are about imposing dominance and control over everything including you.
You have to read this. Firsthand affidavit from one of the women who was there and recording the video. She talks about how Alex Pretti was directing traffic when she arrived. She watched him be killed in front of her. She's afraid to go home, worried she'll be arrested.
Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti βWe are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the βheroβ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trumpβs murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.
Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti.
"Please get the truth out about our son."
2 O LorD, how long shall I cry for help, and you will not hear? Or cry to you "Violence!" and you will not save? 3 Why do you make me see iniquity, and why do you idly look at wrong? Destruction and violence are before me; strife and contention arise. 4 So the law is paralyzed, and justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; so justice goes forth perverted.
Them, but also more directly: 285 people out of 535 could end all this (218 + 67). That fact should not be treated as an "oh they'll never do it" shrug, as if they don't have agency. They should be hammered constantly as traitors and cowards every day they don't.
Went to three gas stations before I found gas! Wild out here!
I do not regret to inform you that we are going to win.
