One of my favourites from last year. Quirky masterpiece.
I found out this week that Woodrow Wilsonβs mum was from Carlisle and he loved cycling holidays in the Lake District. My Cumbrian Y12 history nerds were very happy to learn this fact (as was I!)
Interesting. It was pretty much essential when it came out when I was at Uni but haven't really thought if it's continued to be rated. Definitely Bright Eyes best album and as relevant now as when it came out.
This mix of Cloud Number 9 was always trash. Beautiful song on the album yet this album makes it sound like bad lift muzak
Big yes for MISWM. Brilliant album.
1 is one of the greatest albums ever made.
Also massive agree. Her country tinged album Invisible Empire also never got the love it deserved.
1 Let Go - Nada Surf
2 No Cities Left - The Dears
3 I'm New Here - Gill Scott-Heron, Jamie XX
4 Mines - Menomena
5 Grey Will Fade - Charlotte Hatherley

I feel like we need to hold some kind of ceremony to mark this blessed day!
For those who want to understand Iran, here's a gem of a new episode of Legacy, where Professor Ali Ansari explains to me and @afuahirsch.bsky.social how leaders in Iran see the outside world - and how power structures actually work/worked

Humanism in a nutshell. 1) Putting human beings and other living things at the centre of your moral outlook. 2 Seeing the world as a natural place and looking to science and reason to make sense of it. 3 promoting and supporting human flourishing across all frontiers and championing human rights for everyone.
2003. The names have changed but as always, George was right π€
The healthiest way to deal with it is probably not to indulge the innocence but to say "you absolutely knew this was who they were, you just didn't want to think about it". Anything else feels like gaslighting.
You think the Moyes tweet can't be beaten but Igor Tudor shows that you are just a baby
Given that Isabel Oakeshott is of fighting age, I assume she'll remain in Dubai and fight to defend her new homeland? That's how that works, right?
Black and white photo of Marjane Satrapi with the quote: "The world is not divided between East and West. You are American. I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you. And our governments are very much the same."
Once again.
Bored of peace, Donald?

you would think that Reform would be celebrating that a white local working-class tradesperson has beaten an elite, out-of-touch academic who was parachuted in to the constituency
Starmer set himself up as Macron. Today he looks more like Biden or Hollande.
And why claims of the rise of sectarianism in British politics ring hollow. Apparently British Muslims, uniquely, aren't allowed to decide who best represents them.

Question is whether there are adults, time, space & specialist input to make the plan real.

The Green victory in Denton is the result which will have the biggest effect on Labour, far more so than a Reform win.
The blithe assumption progressives have nowhere else to go has been proved catastrophically wrong.
Canβt help thinking of this quote from a Labour minister, a year agoβ¦
Hello darkness my old friend...
Reform, which spent its by-election campaign warning about the UK's "Christian heritage" being under threat, while proposing a ban on visas from predominantly Muslim countries, now accuses their opponents of engaging in "sectarian politics"
