Hot take, feel free to dismiss:

The only person who would think that you can magically effect regime change by taking out an autocrat is an autocrat – because they’re primed to overestimate the importance of the ‘Great Leader’ to the survival of the regime.

Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

This whole thread right here. Begging to launder dirty money for the worst people tarnishes the entire industry. The alternative is a less wealthy, but less beholden academy with a chance at recovering integrity and trust.

Between diffusion models and LLMs, tech has inflated a trillion dollar bubble around automating activities that have immense social and cultural capital—writing, art, photography—but little actual capital. It’s harmful to education, culture, and society with minimal overall benefit

I wanted to share probably the most important sermon I’ve given and it’s while I’m being arrested. It’s torture pure and simple what happens at #Broadview. I’m ok, though I was thrown to the ground and choked with my pectoral cross. A review of the video shows I was peaceful - did I deserve this?

I’m old enough to remember when interfering with state governments or decisions made by private companies would send conservatives to their fainting couches.

AOC: We have a future to fight for, and we're either going to do that together or you're going to be left behind. It's not about Progressive. It's not moderate, it's not liberal. This is about do you understand the assignment of fighting fascism right now? And the assignment is you come together…

Should the government censor speech it doesn’t like? Of course not.

The FCC does not have a roving mandate to police speech in the name of the “public interest.”

Who, in your view, should have the power to draw the line between a “lie” and “free speech”? Government officials that want to stay in political power or the people that can hold them accountable ?

President Biden is right.

Political satire is one of the oldest and most important forms of free speech.

It challenges those in power while using humor to draw more people in to the discussion.

That’s why people in influential positions have always targeted it for censorship.

Free speech is the counterweight—it is democracy’s check on government control.

That’s why censorship is the authoritarian’s dream.

After all, there’s a straight line from the soap box to the ballot box. You retain freedom at both or neither.

New research from MIT found that those who used ChatGPT can’t remember any of the content of their essays.

Key takeaway: the product doesn’t suffer, but the process does. And when it comes to essays, the process *is* how they learn.

/4 In my view, a movement that so transparently rejects the deal — so obviously adopts the policy “the only valid result is I win” — is not entitled to the protections of the votes-instead-of-sticks approach.

They should get the sticks.

I helped build a government AI system. DOGE fired me, rolled the AI out to the whole agency, and implied the AI can do my job and the jobs of the others they've fired.

It can't. But, what DOGE accidentally revealed about themselves in the process is fascinating. 🧵
