Hegseth is achieving levels of dipshittery in these press conferences that makes it more and more difficult for Colin Jost to parody. At some point SNL will just play Hegseth.
The fact that Hegseth feels the need to attack the press after every question shows how deeply insecure and unhinged he is. His TV studio with soft lighting, his makeup, hype videos, barring photographers from briefings - his sole obsession is how he is portrayed to the public.
What Hegseth means by ‘patriotic press’ is any media eager to share Trump propaganda as opposed to actual journalists seeking truth and reporting it without fear or favor. If you want the facts about this war, it’s critical to rely on fact based sources, not state media like fox, sinclair, etc

1. Let me see if I have this right. The Russians are now helping the Iranians kill Americans, first by providing “targeting information,” according to the Post.

Last year, Nicolas Baumard and I published a target article in EHB, where we propose that cultural phenomena emerge from feedbacks between evolved psychology and ecological legacies, the same mechanisms at work in any ecosystem:

Americans refused to wear masks to save their own children from a mass death event. They’re not going to sacrifice gas money for Iranians.
NEW: The Iranian drone strike that killed 6 U.S. troops in Kuwait at the start of the war was far more devastating than previously disclosed.
Dozens suffered traumatic brain injuries, burns, and shrapnel wounds. At least one required an amputation. More than 30 remain hospitalized. (CBS News)

The course discusses the different answers that practical philosophy has to offer to the question of what makes a human life good for the one who lives it. The course thus seeks answers to questions such as: What is happiness, and is happiness the only thing important to living a good life? What role, if any, does morality play in the good life? What role does excellence or success play? By considering philosophical theories about the good life, the course seeks to provide answers to questions such as these. The theories covered during the course are discussed and problematized, among other things by examining the implications they have for our individual life choices and the question of how we should live.
Our popular summer course Happiness and the Good Life is open for applications. The course is fully remote and taught in English. Deadline March 16. Sign up today! www.su.se/utbildning/u... CC: @stockholm-uni.bsky.social
AI is better than humans because AI doesn’t get cancer. So let’s build data centers that we know will cause humans to get cancer. It’s a win all around.

One day the NYT's editors will read these stories again and be ashamed of themselves. Mamdani called the attack "heinous," "criminal," "reprehensible," "terrorism," and "the antithesis of who we are." The insinuation that he's conflicted about this is disgraceful. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/09/n...

Awesome
And to the extent that they've gone after academics, it's also been those with the least institutional support. A TA at the University of Oklahoma lost her job for being trans: I haven't heard about that happening to any full professors at Yale.
How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.
"Conferences... serve important institutional functions. They shape disciplinary agendas, determine which questions and approaches gain visibility, and influence whose work is taken up, cited, and taught." Who should get to go to them? Where should they take place?

"Our views are profoundly shaped by our cultural backgrounds and life experiences. Uniformity dulls our collective philosophical thinking. A fair and flourishing discipline would treasure rather than repel those who have historically been excluded."
