Hot water bottles actually have a use by date and expected lifetime of 4 years. There's a year marker on every one (and month and week of month within a circle next to it). The rubber is only good for so long before it perishes so you are supposed to dispose of them and buy a new one regularly

time yes, I think I joined in April 07 or whenever invites came out during the beta. Effort, meh. I've always been an infrequent poster and never took it that seriously. Early days it was key as a tech community, around 09 early majority hit and it got noisy.
