This seems like a really important paper comparing chromosome tracing methods, demonstrating that classical denaturing DNA-FISH and chromosome tracing leads to substantial distortion of 3D genome structure, likely due to the high-temperatures involved (70-90C):

I got a book titled "Goodnight Lab" for my 5yo, and it is hilarious!

Using a pot I got for my birthday, I tried my first group planting of succulents. Not bad.
Itโs been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). Iโm reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

I recently reconnected with a friend from junior high school, who is now a university professor, and we had an interesting discussion about the characteristics of biology and medicine as disciplines.

As a biologist by training, I understand that recognizing the unique characteristics of each discipline is crucial for efficient learning and progress. This understanding helps avoid unnecessary detours and ensures a more direct path to mastering new fields.
Biology presents a different challenge, as studying higher levels requires a solid understanding of the basics. For example, working in immunology demands more than just memorizing basic biochemistry or genetics concepts; it requires a deeper comprehension of these foundational subjects.
In fields like physics and computer science, a clear hierarchy exists, allowing the use of basic levels without deep understanding. For example, in computer science's statistical mathematics, one applies theorems without needing to prove them. This discernment is crucial given our limited time.

Since it's winter break, I've decided to study the basics of AI, specifically ML and DL. My goal isn't to become a developer; rather, I want to be able to communicate effectively in future research and development settings from a biologist's perspective and quickly understand the key concepts.
"The basics are important, but it's also crucial to actively use new tools and experience their benefits," said the friend. I completely agree. I often find myself wanting to fully understand how it works, but time is limited, making efficiency essential. This has been a challenge for me as well.
