🌋 New paper led by Emma Horn & the CAVES Project!

We’ve characterised the glass geochemistry of 15 major Azores eruptions (~100 ka). This dataset provides fingerprints to trace Azores tephra across Europe, Africa & beyond. 🔎

The coring campaign of the ExTRAP project - Exploratory study of Tephra Records in Azores Peatlands is ongoing on Pico Island. We are coring peatlands of the central highlands of Pico searching for tephra layers to help reconstruct the eruptive history of the island. Stay tuned for exciting results!

That's a warp on a very fruitful #IAVCEI2025 week in Geneva, Switzerland! Despite the heat wave across Europe, we hung on strong. It was great to catch-up with "old" friends, meet new colleagues and motivated ECRs. Thanks to everyone for the many interesting discussions about volcanoes 🌋

The authors comment, from a volcanological point of view and in light of current scientific knowledge, on the eruptive events described in the various texts. A “plot” woven with intrigue and power games! Available at Letras Lavadas bookstore in Ponta Delgada (São Miguel, Azores).
