Then afterwards (about 7am), we'll be having a cup of tea (or Havana coffee) and a small bite to eat at Pride HQ - 28 Blair Street, to kick this Festival off. Again, you're invited to that as well.

Dawn ceremony - 5.30am 6th March 2026 - Maitarangi Mt Vic Summit

Along with our friends at the Wellington Pride Parade, we'd like to invite you to the summit of Matairangi/Mt Victoria for a dawn service to welcome the sun on the first day of the Pride Celebrations. It's at 5.30am, the hill is not very accessible and it's cold, but it's beautiful!

We're incredibly disappointed that last night someone chose to remove some of the rainbow flags - symbols of inclusion - hanging in Cuba Mall last night. We thank Wellington Police for dealing with this situation.

The flags will be re-hung as soon as possible. We are very excited about the Wellington Pride Festival starting on Friday morning, and the Pride Parade on Saturday.

There'll be even more colour across the city as Rainbow Windows of Wellington rolls out in 40 locations all around Te Whanganui-a-Tara. #loveislove

It’s one week to go h til the festival starts so here is our plea to you:

Book something for the festival. Today. Maybe more than one thing! Be kind to all the event producers and let them start the festival a little less stressed. Maybe you’re bad at remembering to do things, so this is your reminder to DO IT NOW. Waiting for your friend group to sort themselves out? Sort yourself out and they’ll follow! Finances tight? There’s lots of free events who’d like you to register in advance. Unsure about the weather? We all are. Waiting for a better offer? You won’t get one. Waiting for a sign? THIS IS IT!

So grab your tickets, register for that workshop, buy a ticket to the yourhball for the rainbow rangitahi in your life (or a supporters donation if not), enter your dog in Pooches in the Plaza, and then tell some more people to do the same. Thanks in advance!

Human rights protections for transgender Kiwis not a priority – Govt The Law Commission's recommendations to explicitly bar housing and hiring discrimination against transgender and intersex people have been sidelined.

I missed this news when it came out yesterday. What a small, weak, sad bunch this government is. They lose nothing (except perhaps the votes of unhinged bigots) by making these changes:

An image of a bunch of cartoon animals and the headline "What do you want to do at the festival?"

Each animal has a speech bubble that says one of the following:

- Learn history!
- Dance!
- Bring the whole pride along!
- Craft!
- Help fundraisers!
- Meet someone!
- See a show!
- Stuff for youth!

Then the words 'there's something for almost everyone" and the WPF festival logo, March 6 - 22.

With over 80 different events happening as part of WPF, it's hard to know where to start!

You can filter the event listings by access need (Sturdy seating or bring your baby ?) or filter by category, so you can find family-friendly events, dance parties, free events, or stuff that's outdoors 1/2

Wellington! I’ve been working on something cool with a couple of lovely collaborators.

Good Luck Craft Club is a monthly craft meetup for artists of Asian descent in the Wellington region.

Central CBD locations, ticketed workshops, BYOC(bring your own craft) and a community craft box.
