One cool thing about The Comics Staple, is that the plan (for now) is to go totally DIY with the whole thing! That means printing, folding, stapling, and mailing from my garage!!

The cover of the zine! In the centre is a screenshot from The Shape of Water of a woman with her hands against a tank containing a humanoid fish man. They look at each other longingly through the glass. The Title of the zine is: So you've seen The Shape of Water...A beginner's guide to monster kissing movies
screenshot from Tsui Hark's Green Snake. Two women in are sitting very close to each other in the grass, surrounded by huge flowers. One, in a pink dress, looks down, deep in thought. The other, in a teal dress, looks at her sister in concern
A screenshot from Agnieszka Smoczynska's The Lure. Three mermaids are snuggled together on a dingy grey bed beneath a disco ball (it's a weird movie). The one in the middle wears a dramatic red wig, and holds the other, younger mermaids protectively. The younger ones are suckling from the older one's breasts.
Screenshot from Jean Cocteau's Beauty and the Beast. Belle, a beautiful young woman, looks in a mirror, listening intently as the cat-like beast, in flamboyant dress and cape, holds up a key and gives her instructions on how to return to her family.
In a fit of procrastination, I did a new copy edit on this zine from last year; I forgot to share it for Valentine's Day, but if you're still looking for love, you can download my Beginner's Guide to Monster Kissing movies for PWYC on Gumroad! allisonotoole.gumroad.com/l/monster-ki...
Ah even from checking the previews on that one, I can see that it, too, requires a fresh copy edit... ah, well....
My zine about odd museums is also still up for PWYC~ allisonotoole.gumroad.com/l/museum-zine

A Siren wearing clothes with a messy updo bun of dark hair is gracefully posed in the mirror with her head tilted away and eyes closed. Her hand is cupping the head of an invisible figure. Two streams of dark liquid flow from dots on her neck. The mirror she poses in is antique brass and silver and very ornate

And of course the story is now about Black vs disabled as opposed to the amazing achievements.
One thing we donβt do well, societally or interpersonally, is digest harms when there really isnβt anyone to blame.
Being called a n*gger on international television in front of your peers is a harm.
Having a disability that creates that harm through no choice of your own is a harm.
New Zine on How to be a good leader as modeled by Kermit the Frog! Up on Patreon www.patreon.com/posts/how-to...
I have a feeling the guys on LinkedIn are gonna love this..
I WISH Kaori had been able to secure the gold, I'm still gutted about it, but I'm also truly thrilled for Alysa--what a fantastic ambassador for the sport! Both women, and Amber Glenn, have been at the forefront of modelling a much healthier women's field than we saw at the last Olympics! My loves π
100%-If I hadnt made Adult Romance (thanks gumroad for banning it!!!) theres no chance @henrybarajas.bsky.social would have seen my work, let alone put me on Gil Thorp and Death To Pachuco with him.
Its a cliche but its true, make the work you wanna make in order to someday do this professionally.
Congrats Neil!! This is going to be a classic in comics studies and craft!
Neil's research is on how understanding and reading comics (or sequential imagery) is a cognitive skill and process not unlike learning and reading a language. It's interesting stuff - worth a read for us working cartoonists
