I’ve been seeing a ton of love for the movie in the comedy podcast space (the cool ones, like blank check. not the maga ones). So even though box office isn’t crazy, industry people are noticing. I hope this helps launch the filmmaker to another level. He could be like a Canadian safdie brothers.

I think it was mismarketed. Leading with Gylinhall as director made it feel like an actors experimental vanity project, not a real big movie. It was giving driveway dolls meets the people’s joker. I was genuinely surprised when it got good reviews.

@blankcheck.bsky.social griffin was incorrect about the hobbit. Studio forced Jackson stretch from 2 to 3 movies mid production. The making of documentaries on the hobbit special editions are fascinating because you see clearly how miserable the process was and why they turned out such a mess.

I think it was just they didn’t have Taco Bell in the UK, so people wouldn’t get the reference. So they just subbed in a different fast food chain. Not sure if they were owned by same parent company back in the early 90’s or if that’s just a coincidence.
