Starting in 2004, the very first Cacowards began celebrating the best custom content for Doom. Now, twenty years later, the 2024 Cacowards have gone live! Thanks to @genuuneg.bsky.social and @tatsumimi.bsky.social for this year's incredible Doom manga artwork!

it and UFO 50 are the happiest I've been gaming this year, highly recommended
I kid you not, @itch.io has been taken down by Funko of "Funko Pop" because they use some trash "AI Powered" Brand Protection Software called Brand Shield that created some bogus Phishing report to our registrar, iwantmyname, who ignored our response and just disabled the domain
drum n bass label Joker Records had the most amazing flash intro in the early 00s
if the traversal in Nikki was just a little more interesting I think it'd have a much broader potential audience, your only unique moves atm are a glide and a ground pound, something that felt as good as the hat in Odyssey would make this worth playing just to move through the world like that
I'm not much for gacha games but at least right now I feel no need to engage with the monetization, it's either gacha rolls in the shop for clothes that aren't my style (it's mostly princess dresses atm) or a battle pass for more currency for said rolls
this might be the one to get me
and, of course, you can fish. what more could you ask for
it's got the dense level design of Mario Odyssey, the post-post-apoc fantasy world of Breath of the Wild, a style battling system structured like Shadow of Mordor, one of the best photo modes ever, a fleshed-out world with interesting conflicts, goofy but sincere writing, it hits on so many levels
been really taken by Infinity Nikki over the last few days, it's a grab bag of the best ideas from the last fifteen years of open world game design, but all put toward the end of building and showing off your virtual wardrobe
can't see myself enjoying another post-Genshin game as much as this
KEF's centers are worth a look, their Q series make good surrounds as well
Infinity Nikki is chill so far, surprised at the quantity and quality of the writing, it really dedicates to its concept of a world centered around magic clothes and follows through in fun ways
it's mostly wandering around collecting stuff to craft clothes with, great environments and art direction
Yamaha amps are still pretty bulletproof too, good power and performance but a little pricier than some of the modern options, this site's a good resource if you want some objective measurements of audio equipment www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index....
the speaker or headphone will always be the biggest determiner of sound quality, stuff before that (digital-to-analog conversion, amplification, etc.) should not color the sound (with the exclusion of purposeful EQ or tube distortion if that's your thing)

you will never meet someone more passionate about getting buzzed off weed and diet soda and playing 7/10 video games from 5 to 20 years ago than me
The Delta - Thing E.P. (2000) [d.Drum / Global Trance Network]

it's always gonna be weird seeing "Persona 3 Portable" on a box for a console that you have to plug into a wall
wonder if James Gwertzman and Jeff Gerstmann have ever interacted
was reading on the history of PopCap Games and learned that the founder of the Feeding Frenzy dev that PopCap acquired went on to make a lot of money selling gaming start-ups and eventually was partner at a16z (and of course he's a Burner) www.geekwire.com/2022/a-prair...
stages of grief: EVERYDAY LACKLUSTER is on bandcamp now

got a couple Google Nest Audios for $50 each (the usual sale price for the last year or so) and I'm pretty impressed, they're heavy little units with great bass extension if you put em near a wall, got a couple WiiM units on the way so the whole apartment will be Chomecast compatible

Cover of the MSX2 game Aleste 2. A woman seen from the front, seated at the controls of a mecha. A malevolent-looking being stands behind her.
Cover of the MSX2 game Aleste. A blond man holds a pink-haired woman. In the background, a spaceship flies over an urban structure with a huge hole in the middle.
Cover of the MSX2 game Shin Maō Golvellius. A young man holds a sword in the air, seemingly protecting a young woman who looks like a princess.
I've finally found some information about Kei Furutsuki / ふるつき景, illustrator who worked on several Compile games in the late 80s. The bad news is that he died of liver cancer on 3 December 2010.

Bitches out here actin different. You gotta respect the nuances
umberto eco's sentiment about buying "too many" books absolutely applies to games 🙏
