This is so great to see!
Our daughter was diagnosed at a well-child check up at age 12 after a 'routine' (all too rare in the US) urine dip test for glucose. We caught #T1D early and "being forewarned IS being forearmed!". Too many kids are diagnosed in ketoacidosis.

First light!! Today we recorded the first neurons in the lab. Couldn't be more stoked😁
Even with all the advances, diabetes remains a 24/7 challenge for management. Hoping for continued advances. Would sure be nice if industry could remember Banting's selflessness.
@jamiedroitman.bsky.social
Happy #WorldDiabetesDay! Celebrating Banting, Best, Mcleod, Collip and those that came before/after in pursuit of treatment and a cure. Reflecting on how far we've come just since #T1D came to us and on the selflessness of Banting for selling his patents for just $1.

“Terrible things are happening outside. Poor helpless people are being dragged out of their homes. Families are torn apart. Men, women, and children are separated. Children come home from school to find that their parents have disappeared.”

Illinois Gov. Pritzker ahead of Trump National Guard deployment:
"To Chicagoans... Look out for your communities and your neighbours. Know your rights. Film things that you see happening... Authoritarians thrive on your silence. Be loud for America."
A landmark volume, The Handbook of Dopamine, is now online:

As your next door neighbor, I know how much work went into this and how awesome the data are!!!! Congrats!!!!!
Trans rights are human rights.
Fresh work incoming: Here we quantitatively compare the representational geometry of mouse CA1 and human spatial memory during environmental deformations. Briefest TLDR: Human memory looks like a change-resistant version of mouse CA1.

Very excited to share our new paper on the effects of adolescent opioid exposure on reward sensitivity during initial morphine administration and withdrawal, as well as during and after re-exposure in adulthood! Now out in Physiology & Behavior: www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...
The reality that masked men without proper identification are confronting and arresting and taking away people should be intolerable to anyone who calls themselves American.
A tradition unlike any other...Paula Bazzino cracks open her geode - signifying all the hard work she's done to show off her amazing studies and intellect! Congratulations to Paula Bazzino on her fantastic dissertation!!!

Pritzker: As a Ukrainian American Jew who built a holocaust museum… let me say this to Donald Trump: Stop tearing down the constitution in the name of my ancestors. Do not claim that your authoritarian power grabs are about combatting anti-semitism.
We're disappointed to see Ben Barres's powerful book "The Autobiography of a Transgender Scientist" among the ~400 titles removed from the Naval Academy Library. Needless to say, we're proud to have published his book and will keep it — and his memory — alive.
open.substack.com/pub/markscha.... As a former president of the society for the Study of Ingestive Behavior @ssib, I recommend this great read describing what we are up against
If you think what happened to Rumeysa Ozturk can't happen to you because you're a citizen and she's not, you are sorely mistaken. Ozturk was snatched off the street not for being a national security threat but for having a wrong opinion. If we don't put a stop to this, it's coming for all of us.
When the kids show that they finally understand (sort of) what their parents have devoted their professional lives to...in their own words:

This is horrible to post, but I may as well post it. We are essentially shutting down research operations in my group, which is focused on treatments for pediatric brain cancer. I’m a well funded investigator, and there’s no choice. Science can’t function without the stability of NIH
