Cool idea!
some who excel at math, some who hate it, various grades and levels of English proficiency. The current teacher has kids work on things in Khan every day which I donโt want to do. I want to create a course thatโs meaningful, but also wonโt be too time-consuming to build.

Next yr Iโll be teaching a HS โmath electiveโ class for kids who need to make up math credits. I can teach anything as long as itโs connected to the CCSS. Has anyone built a course like this? Any ideas of what would be most engaging for kids? Resources to pull from? I will have a wide range of kidsโฆ

Who has meaningful two-way tables they've used with high schoolers to do probability? I'm wanting to show my students real data that tells them about the world. Data about sleep, video games, politics, culture, jobs?

I had the pleasure of being a guest on The Present Edge on @kgnuradio.bsky.social last night. Playing some (quasi)classical music with my old friend Katherine @matherinep.bsky.social

This looks like a wonderful opportunity for high school math students interested in working with real-world data!
Our first day is next week! Share any ideas you have for emerging English language learners in 10th grade to start talking about math on the first day of school...
I know a lot of people who use Duolingo.
Teachers work their asses off to educate, foster creativity and independence and support your children as the individuals they are.
I urge you to reconsider and let your money/data point do the talking.
I appreciate the breakdown about Chat-GPT/AI in an accessible way, and through an issue that young people care about.
Do any Colorado teachers have opinions about the #PERA elections??
We studied parabolas earlier this semester in 10th grade math. I visited the Very Large Array this weekend and showed this picture to my classes from space.com. Was very stoked that one kid saw it and said โParabolic!โ (Second pic is mine from one of the displays.)
I turned my most boring math lesson into one of my most engaging ones. Here's how:
I am both proud and grumpy that I taught my 8 year old nephew some of these games today and he beat me in most of them. mathwithbaddrawings.com/2020/04/22/s...
Besides the IM curriculum for A1/G/A2, what are other good problem-based math curriculum for HS? Ones that follow the experience first, formalize later model. I also know of Math/Stats/Calc Medic.
What else is out there?
Anybody on here run a math club at their high school? I'm going to start one at my school next year and would love to chat with you! #iteachmath #mtbos
Add me! I teach 10th grade math in Colorado.

A great resource to hand out to students. Many of them have no idea what their rights are as an immigrant.

I have so many students who are so worried about deportations. How are y'all checking in with students and supporting them amongst the chaos?
Oh my gosh thatโs wild!! Luckily our outages have all just been one day at a time. So I can deal but itโs definitely frustrating!
Have any other public K-12 teachers in the US been dealing with district Internet outages this year? Today is the third time this school year my school has NO internet. I canโt even make hand written worksheets for the kids cuz we canโt log into the printers to make copies. ๐ญ
Our school is having an issue with our small group of Rohingya-speaking students because we have no way to communicate with their parents. Rohingya is mostly a spoken language so we can't use google translate and the district has no interpreters who speak Rohingya. Anyone else dealing with this?
Absolutely!
Does anyone else work at a big high school with low attendance rates? Anything youโve done that has helped get the kids into class?
I would love to connect with any other folks who are teaching high school math to newcomers who have recently arrived in the US! #mtbos #iteachmath
Linocut of Sophie Germain (a young woman in with a collar with bow, under a dark dress, with a ribbon tied around her neck, long hair with centre part, half tied up with a ribbon in her hair). She is printed in dark blue with her own words about Fermat's Last Theorem in her own script carved into her hair and dress). Behind her in lavender is a grid of Chladni figures.
