I’m sorry you were treated that way. I wish people could forget what you do for a living, or at least stop using your career as some sort of label to define who you are, and remember you’re a human being with feelings, boundaries and needs, and that your job doesn’t define you or your relationships.

I appreciate that sentiment and recognition and hope that's the case. I haven't told the ones I have feelings for. Why burden them? Make them feel guilty for doing their job well? Make them feel badly about my problem? Possibly make them concerned I'd become one of the guys you wrote about? Nope.

I can't fathom anything else. My emotions, my feelings, my problem.

I've caught "the feels" for a handful of sex workers, but only because they're such incredible women and I'm weak. I never expect more from them when this happens. I get sad and mopey and write poetry. Drink a bit. Hire them as much as I can, and others to help get my mind off them. That's it.

Degrading is a personal feeling that comes from feeling devalued, unappreciated or disrespected. If you don’t feel that way with sex work (and hopefully you feel the opposite of those), then you’re not being degraded, no matter how other people think or feel.
