Cool!! They are a rare but annual visitor to these parts. We had a female hanging out with a pair of Pochards in a wetland close to my home here in Limerick last year. Harder to spot the female with her brownish-gray body. But she stood out from the Pochards with her subtly peaked head profile.

Very enjoyable @birdwatchireland.bsky.social Limerick Branch outing to Kilcolman Fen in Co Cork today. Lots of birds to see. The highlights were an American Ring Necked Duck, 6 Gadwalls, Whooper Swans and a brief glimpse of a male Hen Harrier. Too brief for a photo though. And no rain!!! #Birds
