Lack of ability. It's a skill I don't possess and have little desire to learn, hence the endless slog of trying to get trad published (though in the current climate that's not a get out of jail card either.)

I don't have massive, or even huge. The best I can manage is large.

Hi Leah. Your MSWL sounds near perfect for my time travel adventure (soft SF, I promise). One Q though- your definition of historical fiction? It's primarily set in 1972 - so yay or nay? It's pretty much our world without computers and smart phones - if you can handle rotary phones you're golden. ๐
I used to be a journalist so I'm used to interviews from the reverse perspective, but I've also done a fair amount of them as a band member.
I have no problem talking about myself or my writing. I'm a performer (musician) so I'm quite comfortable in the 'spotlight'. I'm not so comfortable doing my own marketing though, as it's well outside my skillset.

Hi Natasha. I'm beginning to feel like a stuck record since I've asked this question so often, but what's your definition of historic fiction? Would you consider a time travel adventure set predominantly in the 1970s as historic? Would a light espionage element be off putting for you?
Oh he feels guilt, he just hides it well - especially to himself.
D5 - the MC is guilted into making a big apology after some heavy handed treatment of a suspected sabateur who turns out to be innocent. It's somebody he likes so he's compelled to make amends, (much against his nature).

Keep your ears pealed... we have a new album coming out soon.
Hi Raquel. I have a time travel story I'd love to send you, that's also something of a genre mashup. Sadly I can only give you steampunk in the sense that I wrote the 'Steampunk National Anthem' (The Last Steampunk Waltz).
Perfect. It's coming atcha. ๐
My most pressing question is your definition of historical fiction. I have a story featuring time travel that's predominantly set in 1972, with forays further back in time. Other than the time travel element, it's absolutely not sci-fi - rather a grounded adventure story. Would this work for you?
That's the rub though, unfortunately. Different editors have quite different opinions on what constitutes historical. For some it's 20th century, for others it's 19th and earlier.
I'm echoing the light sci-fi question above to an extent. Would a story set during the Cold War with time travel involved be light enough, in your opinion? Could you work with a predominantly 1970s timeframe (with forays into other time peiods)?
No media, but I have press.

Hi Laura. I'm interested in your definition of historical. My story is mainly set in 1972 (so no computers to foul things up), and is a time travel adventure. Are the 1970s historical enough for you? Is time travel sci-fi enough? There are plenty of survival situations included.
Definitely - it's all on the whims of politicians.
Yes.
Annoyingly, there's no Kindle download available at the moment, which is baffling.
Good to know. In that case I must read it ASAP.
I should really read Ministry of Time but the romance element is putting me off. I'm not a romance fan in any guise.
Vague in what way? What sort of story are you writing (other than time travel, obv).
Yeah, luckily it's an old and disused sewer, so I avoided any grisly descriptions of fatbergs and the like. ๐ฉ๐คข๐คฃ
Mine opens in a disused sewer below Berlin in 1964 - a smuggling route that runs beneath the Berlin Wall.
D3 - many of the main characters work for British security or Special Branch, so their remit is to protect the country and its citizens. Then you have the antagonists and politicians, protecting their own interests.
