I did in fact have as much fun at this breakout session as it looks like I'm having. Always good to collaborate with Jen Iriti!

Here is the latest from our Policies for Place initiative. We convened a bunch of interesting folks in Grand Rapids last June, and this is what they said about its unique public-private partnership model.
The Upjohn Institute has studied tuition-free college programs for 20 years, starting with the Kalamazoo Promise in 2005. This work informed a movement that now includes 200+ programs. Read how research, collaboration and expertise helped inform this movement. #EduSky

Policy-relevant research from multiple disciplines is welcome.
@truesdale.bsky.social and I were happy to have @washingtonpost.com highlight our thoughts on Medicaid work requirements. There is even more cause for concern now the bill has become law. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...
The website seems to have corrected itself, most all of the functions are back and we did receive our check. How about everyone else? οΏΌ
Same for my daughter here. The records of her wages that I've submitted over the past six months are also gone, so no evidence that we've met earnings rules. I literally have no idea what to do.
Hey Bre, same thing here. But not fixed by 12 midnight because I'm up checking now and the portal is closed from 1-4:15 AM. Will report back in the real morning. All history of payments as well as income reporting is gone, and the note says my daughter is not a beneficiary.
We had a similar experience last night, with the wrinkle that none of the monthly income reporting is showing up. In other words, the SSA.gov site does not show that my daughter was ever a beneficiary, what she ever received, or that we've adhered to income reporting rules to maintain our benefits.
Not just home healthcare, all kinds of community based services that help people with disabilities get out and about or funded by Medicaid. οΏΌ
Distressed to hear the #SocialSecurity admin will start witholding 100% of people's benefits if there is an overpayment, even if it is the fault of the SSA (which it often is). For now, only overpayments after 3/27 are included, and SSI is not affected. Since 3/24, repayments were capped at 10%.
so true -- I have a call with them today so they can review my disabled daughter's modest monthly payment to adjust for her minuscule earned income. I file her pay stubs every month. that's where the waste is, in the means-tested part of SSA -- and all the mail they send me..
From @timbartik.bsky.social at @upjohninstitute.bsky.social Michigan's GSRP pre-K program yields positive returns over a 15-year period, with the immediate gain of allowing parents to work while their children are in high-quality pre-K classrooms. Full report is here: www.upjohn.org/research-hig...
and the abdication of congress's rights and responsibilities. they have complied in advance.
Understatement much @nytimes.com?
@upjohninstitute.bsky.social is a great place to work. Happy to answer any questions!
Yes, less than $80K
One of the surprise joys of @pkrugman.bsky.social 's new substack blog are the musical codas. Today's slayed me -- www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0Ju...
Here is what my @upjohninstitute.bsky.social colleagues and I have been up to lately!
Policies for Place @upjohninstitute.bsky.social recently convened our affiliates and local experts in collaboration with the @chicagofed.bsky.social to think about how communities can face coming economic challenges and create more equitable opportunities for residents. 5 lessons for 5 groups here!
I like tuition-free college that includes bachelor-granting institutions, as they provide meaningful choices. Minnesota's is simple and inclusive, with one drawback -- a benefit cliff at family income of $80K. Nothing wrong with a simple scale of declining benefits. www.minnpost.com/education/20...
"Many of the students using these scholarships already had their community college covered through Pell grants, but they didnβt know that," said @mmilleradams.bsky.social "So by saying, βHey, itβs tuition-free,β and putting that free message up front, you can bring a lot of people into the process.β
you bet!!
When it comes to clear communication, a promise that βcommunity college tuition is free for allβ wins, hands down, our @mmilleradams.bsky.social writes in an opinion piece.

New here and seeking connections. I've been a researcher at @upjohninstitute.bsky.social for 18 years, working first on KPromise & tuition-free college, and now on employment for young adults with disabilities. A political scientist by training, I enjoy hanging with economists and higher ed folks.
got it, thanks!
Please add me to your mailing list. I am beginning work on how young adults with disabilities connect to employment.οΏΌ
