So testers just saw a small video of the effects before the update and most were not able to notice the drowning. Even if the light and sound conditions in which this was showcased were not the best for a game like this, I still thought making these changes would benefit everyone

Thank you ^^!. The trickiest part in making the underwater section was actually making it feel underwater. It's not just floating objects or muffled SFX. Visual distortion, bloom effects, real sounds, ... All that makes you feel under constant pressure, as if crushed by the surrounding water
