^ One of my coworkers reminiscing. I love examples like this. It’s hard to teach intellectual humility, because each class increases the students’ skills and confidence. This exercise forces an error; it confronts the students with their own overconfidence
“They had us read a page and put our hands up if we agreed. We all did. Then we swapped pages with our neighbour. Started with the same four facts, but then different interpretation, opposite conclusion. That was the best teaching exercise I ever had. First week of Uni. I’ve never forgotten it.”
