The story is set in Mexico and tells of a boy named Miguel who is accidentally transported to the Land of the Dead, where he seeks the help of his great-great-grandfather to return him to his family and reverse their ban on music.

Vocal ensemble Cupertinos continue their much-praised exploration of Portuguese polyphony with an album of works by Francisco Garro. Garro held the position of Master of the Royal Chapel in Lisbon for more than three decades, giving some idea of his contemporary reputation.

Cupertinos's second single of Garro's eight-voice 'Parce mihi, Domine' is out now (with a full music video to follow). This 'Lesson for the Dead' has been reconstructed from its few surviving partbooks by José Abreu.
Christopher Tye is less famous than his Tudor contemporary Thomas Tallis, but the calibre of his Masses and polyphony are unsurpassed for colour, full-textured fabric and interwoven melodic lines. This new release from Cinquecento contains much to delight the ear.
It's also known as the Peterhouse Mass, since it survives in an incomplete set of partbooks long preserved in the library of Peterhouse, Cambridge. The missing tenor part has been reconstructed by Paul Doe.

The 'Meane Mass'—recorded here by Cinquecento for their 17th Hyperion album—is so called because it lacks the soaring treble part typical of much Tudor liturgical polyphony.
