Finished @aaronburch.bsky.social 's charming novella TACOMA the other night. I now understand his illustration! Loved the wormhole.

Happy first day of #AWP26 !!! Need something to read on your flight? How about THE GREATEST INTERVIEW OF ALL TIME featuring @aaronburch.bsky.social, @dtrobbins.bsky.social, & me (and special guest)!!! π₯π₯π₯
I hadn't either! We just saw it on the HBO homescreen and have liked the last couple Jason Bateman shows so figured we'd give it a shot. Maybe ads have pitched its off-kilterness (but I/we haven't seen any or even heard of it!) but I didn't assume any, and was really pleased how askew it was!
Hell yeah! Was a little afraid that might mislead, but there's something just askew enough about it all that made it feel kinda Tim Robinson-y to me, and wanted to encourage the other Chair Co. heads to check it out!
Watched the first ep of DTF St. Louis having heard and knowing nothing about it, and turns out itβs kinda an erotic thriller (?) and has surprisingly big The Chair Company vibes, and also Linda Cardellini, which is all to say it was incredibly my shit.
spent my evening tryna write something for this
Heβs AFFILIATED with them.
wait, we doing text messages now, too??
Totally. Sometimes I'm just wrong, and it turns out I whiffed! Other times, something is great but just not quite for me. (And sometimes not for the journal? HAD & SSL don't really overlap, but back when I was still doing Ho, there were times I'd want a HAD submission for Ho and vice versa!)
A handful of my fave stories I've read online in the last few months are stories I declined as submissions, and maybe they really leveled up in revisions, but also... art is so subjective, by audience, but also time and circumstance and any number of factors. It's part of what's so great about it.
Oh, kinda crazy. I think you'd love him!
The phrase "I think of the way that horse used to run at those parties," specifically, reminded me of the opening scene of "O Youth and Beauty!" a paragraph I think about kinda all the time, and think you'd dig.

I think I'm getting closer to figuring out my squirrels-in-the-attic problem.
