Uncharismatic megafauna. Too fat to ride a horse, too poor to own a carriage. Buy my book, keep me off the streets: http://bit.ly/JMgibbons

It seems like a deeply sensible rule that I would fail to observe almost instantly due to poor impulse control.

I really liked Cash’s Earth Angel, so this seemed a compulsory purchase. Interesting that it’s going off!

Always love it when a book I have never even heard of appears on my timeline, and it turns out to sound fascinating.

I'd been wondering who was doing the choosing of these books--I'd assumed McNally since they're ALL they publish, whereas Faber already does heaps of stuff, but maybe I was wrong. Either way, of course, I'm very happy to have them!

It's crazy how hard it is to get hold of Asian literature in Australia (even though Asia is [points in almost every direction around us]) unless it's already being published in the US.

As in these are books that came in the post, not that me posting a picture of some books is in some way worthy of an exclamation mark.

Book post! A book by the author that makes every pissweak Australian politician's spine eject right out of the top of their heads, and another of the extremely difficult to get Penguin Southeast Asian Classics.

That terrible feeling when you THINK you're going to have it to yourself and then, during the 3rd trailer, three people who talk loudly suddenly shuffle in and sit right in front of you.

unfortunately paternal grandfather was also extremely cranky and had huge unfounded prejudices ("gutter writing") about vast amounts of literature, so we never really talked about it

A book catalogue entry for a book called MY GOOD LIFE where the author's rags-to-riches tale involves working at "the launch control centers of America's nuclear forces".

I think what we have here is a "category error".
