I'd been wondering who was doing the choosing of these books--I'd assumed McNally since they're ALL they publish, whereas Faber already does heaps of stuff, but maybe I was wrong. Either way, of course, I'm very happy to have them!

It's crazy how hard it is to get hold of Asian literature in Australia (even though Asia is [points in almost every direction around us]) unless it's already being published in the US.

As in these are books that came in the post, not that me posting a picture of some books is in some way worthy of an exclamation mark.

That terrible feeling when you THINK you're going to have it to yourself and then, during the 3rd trailer, three people who talk loudly suddenly shuffle in and sit right in front of you.

unfortunately paternal grandfather was also extremely cranky and had huge unfounded prejudices ("gutter writing") about vast amounts of literature, so we never really talked about it

Maternal grandfather: high school teacher
Maternal grandmother: high school teacher

Paternal grandfather: journalist, poet, translator who translated poetry from Russian, Ukrainian, Chinese, Italian, Spanish, French
Paternal grandmother: physiotherapist (one of first female physios in the country)
