If you call what you do defence more people will be okay with what you are doing.
If you call it willingly participating in an illegal war and war crimes, even if you remind people they weren't that friendly to start with and you think they deserve it, it tends to be less popular.
Given it was Farage standing and splitting the Tory vote that gets Starmer in... Followed by a government that seems to be puppeted at least on rhetoric by Farage....it all just seems like a lot of projection.
Fingers crossed.
Former Chief Medical Officer calls out Streeting’s highly politicised ‘trial’ of puberty blockers. Meanwhile @goodlawproject.org have uncovered a spike in trans youth ending their own lives because they can’t access appropriate care. This is a national scandal.
He was suspended in May 2024 for transphobia.
Holding "Labour Party values" over Green Party ones isn't the win you think it is here.
I'm still in mainly because Zack does seem to be pushing things in the right direction, but there are definitely some horrendous people in the party that are horrificly transphobic.
... or put 4 charging spaces in every drive through fast food and coffee place or supermarket and there would never be an issue charging.
I recall Forstater trying to rebrand "Gender Critical" as "Sex Realist", but it only lasted about a month as people rightly pointed out it makes them look more like bigots.
Less of a hurdle and more of a benefit day by day.
The Clarke thing was ridiculous. He had a load of horrific tweets, the org pinky promised he wasn't part of the org part way through the case so the evidence had to be ignored and then he was straight back in the org after the trial.
Lots of weird underhand bs going on.
Forstater claimed she wouldn't misgender a trans person in order to get GC classified as a protected belief... I mean, that was blatantly a lie at the time but it isn't like it is going back to court to reexamine what GC belief is and how it is often manifest even as it changes over time.
They also lie on the stand regularly, so you'd get some response like "of course we don't really believe that" or "I wouldn't do that or say that in front of a trans person, so my horrific belief isn't really that offensive or intolerant, it's all just some random thoughts I had in my head"
There isn't a better example of how "gender criticism" is a conspiratorial cult that the unhinged GC belief that a group of trans people working in Twitter are secretly deleting the "likes" of GC activists on a specific 2019 JK Rowling tweet. Why does this "GC belief" never come up in court cases?
maybe they need to be threatened with legal action? They seem to respond to that.
We should at least be sanctioning the US and Israel for breaking international law, not joining in because we don't like Iran.
If anything we're demonstrating that international rules based order just doesn't work and countries should be nuclear armed... Including those we don't like.
Just a couple of friendly unwanted trips into someone else's sovereign country to blow up whatever we feel like and occasionally they will try and shoot back at us because they keep mistaking us for an hostile nation doing acts of war. Totes normal peaceful behaviour.
Are they going to form their own independent alliance at this rate... Though they probably can't stand each other.
We've had a lot of government policies to try and do that, ranging from... Various ways of trying to reduce the numbers in the system, setting fixed quota's, having a one in one out policy, trying to remove us from the echr to make deportation simpler, declaring 3rd countries as safe... etc...
*gestures towards the strike prices in the UK CfD nuclear energy agreement*....
... And we absolutely can and do factor in the costs of a variety of grid scale storage solutions and virtual grid technologies.
This stuff isn't going to have zero impact.
Approaching projects with large teams will happen a lot less and people in software will need to be a lot closer to the customer.
Personally I suspect the job is going to look a lot more like a technical product owner and qa/UAT going forward.
🤷♀️
I'm just hoping it isn't a reaction to the criticism often leveled at Zack/the greens in media circles about having an open border policy, so now the rhetoric is changing to "fair and managed"... Given managed has very different connotations to free movement and open borders.
... My point is more that it's ambiguous and people project their own meaning on what "managed" for migration is meant to mean, from reasonable to horrific and often it's a massive red flag pointing to the latter in the current climate.
You'd hope it doesn't mean quotas and the like.. but it could also mean that... So it's not great messaging.
🤷♀️ that's kinda the problem, it's unclear and we're all left projecting meaning into the phrase which has been used by governments to describe some horrific things they've done re: migration in recent years.
What does it mean to be well managed?
That seems like a phrase that can be interpreted many ways by many people ranging from free movement to "remigration"
What's involved in managed part of managed migration?
Either way, you'll find the models right now are pretty capable. So scaffolding & fleshing out black box/unit/perf test projects and creating deployment scripts etc it'll do fairly well.
It doesn't prevent you from hand crafting specific functions or dictating preferred implementation paradigms.
It could be interesting to set up a test suite to see if a code specific model like Claude opus or gpt's codex is totally useless for your use case or not... something you can repeat against new models as they are released to see if your assumptions still hold true.
🤷♀️
So, you're a scientist. Use the tools available, not everything has to be done from first principles all the time in every circumstance.
The world for developing code is changing, pretending otherwise doesn't really help.
