Our case study takes a detailed look at language typed by 5 youth on their smartphones in the 30-day period before suicide-related hospitalization, combining both natural language processing (sentiment, suicide content, topics) and clinician qualitative review to identify potential risk factors.
Excited to share this paper! My co-authors and I did a deep dive into smartphone language to understand indicators of suicide risk in adolescents. One of our goals was to compare AI indicators to clinician ratings. Take a look!
π paper from @isaactreves.bsky.social @paulbloom.bsky.social @prof-nick-allen.bsky.social et al using natural language processing to detect suicide risk. They demonstrated elevations in suicidal language & negative sentiment before hospitalization in adolescents.

In this recent DPN study, @nicolerzurcher.bsky.social & colleagues adapted an AI-based segmentation tool to accurately delineate the choroid plexus in autism spectrum disorder. This approach helps quantify choroid plexus volume across large neuroimaging datasets.

Led by Santiago LΓ³pez Pereyra & @jengoldschmiedphd.bsky.social, this study demonstrates that combining two novel TMS-derived metrics with standard motor-evoked potentials classifies unmedicated major depressive disorder with 83.3% accuracy.

This study by @drsarahsperry.bsky.social & colleagues shows that in bipolar disorder, better mood and higher daily steps predicted each other from day to day, while more intense physical activity improved next-day mood but was not influenced by mood.

Really important insight from @suthanalab.bsky.social. There seems to be lots of general agreement about the importance for cross-species analysis. But, in practice and in the trenches - there's a real divide on how to do it and how to implement it. Appreciate these conversations being raised!
Our new Deep Dive covers a study by @carterfunkhouser.bsky.social, @dpagliaccio.bsky.social & colleagues, which linked EEG-based brain connectivity patterns with emotional expression from text messages to identify neural markers of depressive symptoms in teens

#InternationalDayofWomenandGirlsinScience I checked out this book so many times my parents gave me my own copy for Christmasβ¦ 20 years later, it was at my thesis defense and now in my postdoc office. Thankful for all of the supportive women in my life that have helped make this journey successful π«Άπ»π«Άπ»
Hey #Neuroscientists and #Educators,
Does anyone know of a good 3D brain model for kids with structures labeled that can be taken apart?
Looking for accuracy and to support smaller businesses / #neuroartists rather than a big box store.
