Never forget that the U.S. can always find money for war, but not for education, health care, or to help those in need. This is 100% a choice. And it is 100% the wrong one. www.csis.org/analysis/37-...

Yup!
Welpโฆ this is one way to demonstrate Vermontโs horrific connections:

This yearโs National History Day theme is Revolution, Reaction & Reform in history.
Tomorrow weโll hold our school competition for alllllll 9th graders & many from 10th.
I will also teach our current events lesson on war in Iran.
This weekendโฆ I will crash.
Iโm curious about models that can take into account multiple ways of thinking: the social with the medical.
Worth remembering that many of these students spent high school under Florida's education censorship laws allegedly meant to protect them from learning "divisive" material or feeling a bit sad or icky about the history and current state of race relations in the US.
โฆ DHS/ICE surveillance data center.
(I could go on & on).
That said, our congress people (at the federal level) are pretty awesome.
โฆ to be โprogressiveโ but are still often NIMBY at heart. Sending progressive people to Washington to fight it out at the national level, while also trying to โkeep taxes lowโ locally.
We are a state of contradictions.
We โhate the warโ but supply the F35s.
We โhate ICEโ but have a massiveโฆ
Oh my goodnessโฆ. super popular here, too!
I think itโs โVermont exceptionalismโ - people loooove to say they โvote for the person, not the partyโ & a vote for Scott lets them do that.
Though I will admit heโs done some good, his education policy is horrendous.
I also think VT wantsโฆ
(Alsoโฆ the piece you sent might cover this, but whatโs the term for โall of itโ? Feels like itโs not just one or the other)
If you ever want to come visit Vermontโฆ weโre pretty fortunate over here.
Weโve got some feisty congress members representing this brave little state!
Yup! Hah!
Oh yes! I hear this!
Thank you for naming the complexity - both/and of it all!
Americans killing Iranians is not a very good fix-all to Iranians killing Iranians.
And poking Iran to bomb Israel is -- in my own personal opinion-- also not a particularly solid solution to Israel being threatened with being bombed by Iran.
Just saying?
Yeeesssss, please! Love alllll your thoughts in any/all states!
We WILL find time!
For sure! This is a good summary of three models of disability if they've never hit your radar. You're describing the social model; people who say "increase" are generally referencing the medical model.

I think that we do more to identify โdisabilitiesโ than we used to.
And
We have destigmatized giving people the support they need to find success.
And
We have taught kids that with proper supports they can be successful.
And
We have taught kids to advocate for themselves instead of be silent.
YEEESSSSS!!!
Thank you! Yes!
I remember The Protest Psychosis had me thinking along these lines ๐๐ป
(The number of IEPs/504s Iโve seen that list best practices as โaccommodationsโ has me wondering along these lines)
โฆ about their environment.
If students have been in spaces that work toward universal design, I imagine being in a space that doesnโt to be quite disabling.
This is not to say disability does not exist.
I wonder what happens when we focus on the environment rather than pathologize the person.
Learning out loud hereโฆ call me in/out/whatever if/where Iโm off base.
Thinking about articles talking about โan increase in disabilityโ and canโt help but think of the role of disabling environments.
Rather than what the โspikeโ in numbers says about students, I wonder instead what it saysโฆ
While I understand it is perfectly acceptable, even encouraged, to say โI donโt know, letโs find outโ - the rate at which I find myself saying it this year isโฆ something.
As much as I try to keep up with the world, our domestic and foreign policy is soooo damn puzzling to my social studies brain.
The number of times Iโve had this conversation:
โHey [student name] can we check in? This writing doesnโt really sound like you. Can you tell me more about your process?โ
โI didnโt use AI, I only used grammarlyโ

A thread ๐งต where I will use maps to try and explain the War on Iran. Hopefully this helps.
Our first map is a true size map from truesizeof.com
It shows the United States compared to the region. Notice how #Iran is much larger than #Iraq and #Afghanistan and its central location.
1/n
I. Cannot.
For so so so many reasons ๐
One billion a day on the war on Iran.
AND our sweet little town came out in force for a WRITE IN candidate & did the thing!
Now just looking for more school budget results from around our brave little state ๐ค๐ป
