$3.7 Billion: Estimated Cost of Epic Furyโ€™s First 100 Hours Operation Epic Fury costs nearly $900 million per day, driven by the large expenditure of munitions. Because most of this is not in the budget, the Pentagon will soon need to ask for more money.

Never forget that the U.S. can always find money for war, but not for education, health care, or to help those in need. This is 100% a choice. And it is 100% the wrong one. www.csis.org/analysis/37-...

This yearโ€™s National History Day theme is Revolution, Reaction & Reform in history.

Tomorrow weโ€™ll hold our school competition for alllllll 9th graders & many from 10th.

I will also teach our current events lesson on war in Iran.

This weekendโ€ฆ I will crash.

Iโ€™m curious about models that can take into account multiple ways of thinking: the social with the medical.

Worth remembering that many of these students spent high school under Florida's education censorship laws allegedly meant to protect them from learning "divisive" material or feeling a bit sad or icky about the history and current state of race relations in the US.

โ€ฆ DHS/ICE surveillance data center.

(I could go on & on).

That said, our congress people (at the federal level) are pretty awesome.

โ€ฆ to be โ€œprogressiveโ€ but are still often NIMBY at heart. Sending progressive people to Washington to fight it out at the national level, while also trying to โ€œkeep taxes lowโ€ locally.

We are a state of contradictions.

We โ€œhate the warโ€ but supply the F35s.

We โ€œhate ICEโ€ but have a massiveโ€ฆ

Oh my goodnessโ€ฆ. super popular here, too!

I think itโ€™s โ€œVermont exceptionalismโ€ - people loooove to say they โ€œvote for the person, not the partyโ€ & a vote for Scott lets them do that.

Though I will admit heโ€™s done some good, his education policy is horrendous.

I also think VT wantsโ€ฆ

If you ever want to come visit Vermontโ€ฆ weโ€™re pretty fortunate over here.

Weโ€™ve got some feisty congress members representing this brave little state!

Americans killing Iranians is not a very good fix-all to Iranians killing Iranians.

And poking Iran to bomb Israel is -- in my own personal opinion-- also not a particularly solid solution to Israel being threatened with being bombed by Iran.

Just saying?

For sure! This is a good summary of three models of disability if they've never hit your radar. You're describing the social model; people who say "increase" are generally referencing the medical model.

I think that we do more to identify โ€œdisabilitiesโ€ than we used to.

And

We have destigmatized giving people the support they need to find success.

And

We have taught kids that with proper supports they can be successful.

And

We have taught kids to advocate for themselves instead of be silent.

(The number of IEPs/504s Iโ€™ve seen that list best practices as โ€œaccommodationsโ€ has me wondering along these lines)

โ€ฆ about their environment.

If students have been in spaces that work toward universal design, I imagine being in a space that doesnโ€™t to be quite disabling.

This is not to say disability does not exist.

I wonder what happens when we focus on the environment rather than pathologize the person.

Learning out loud hereโ€ฆ call me in/out/whatever if/where Iโ€™m off base.

Thinking about articles talking about โ€œan increase in disabilityโ€ and canโ€™t help but think of the role of disabling environments.

Rather than what the โ€œspikeโ€ in numbers says about students, I wonder instead what it saysโ€ฆ

While I understand it is perfectly acceptable, even encouraged, to say โ€œI donโ€™t know, letโ€™s find outโ€ - the rate at which I find myself saying it this year isโ€ฆ something.

As much as I try to keep up with the world, our domestic and foreign policy is soooo damn puzzling to my social studies brain.

The number of times Iโ€™ve had this conversation:

โ€œHey [student name] can we check in? This writing doesnโ€™t really sound like you. Can you tell me more about your process?โ€

โ€œI didnโ€™t use AI, I only used grammarlyโ€

A thread ๐Ÿงต where I will use maps to try and explain the War on Iran. Hopefully this helps.

Our first map is a true size map from truesizeof.com

It shows the United States compared to the region. Notice how #Iran is much larger than #Iraq and #Afghanistan and its central location.
