Playing #Multi with #TrinityLearns 5th grader. We “thought out loud” as we played so others could learn. He taught me a new rule and ended the game in a tie. Phew! Playing to learn, practice, and strategize.

Your session was amazing and funny and thoughtful and inspiring!

Our parents responded well and have asked for more sessions. Sometimes they ask for a specific topic: multiplication, fractions, etc. I’ve done 3 sessions this fall with 2 more planned for the winter.
In early years, we are also working on learning to write sentences: statements, questions, exclamations, and commands. The dot represents a period, as well as part of a question mark, and an exclamation point.

In this paper, we also describe incremental changes teachers made in their teaching practice after reading Rough Draft Math: Revising to Learn (book published by Stenhouse), including a case of how a teacher used rough draft math while teaching using Illustrative Math. www.mdpi.com/2227-7102/14...
After attending a conference, teachers' thinking shifted to understand the value of revising, that students can learn while making mistakes, that teachers can intentionally use language while teaching to promote drafting and revising, that peer collaboration supports revising, that rough drafting and revising can happen in math (not just language arts), and that rough drafting and revising in mathematics class is feasible to implement.
New article announcement: Along with Meg Botello and @elenamsilla.bsky.social, we write about small changes that teachers reported in their after participating in a conference presentation about rough draft math (see figure below). (Alt text restates ideas in figure.)

Writing Tip:
The quality of your first draft does not represent the quality of the finished product. Far from it. Most first drafts are an incomprehensible mess. Quality shines in editing. Even a poorly-written draft can be polished into a diamond over time.
