Book two is harder to write than book one; cause at least with book one you had 0 word count and a dream.
Book two you have a previously completed and refined first draft youโre constantly comparing your messy first draft to.
One thing about me imma use an em dash in my writing.
Being on sub is a hell like no other. But hey Iโm close to finishing book two.
I wish. Iโm struggling to hit 1k a day ๐ญ
What I love about the Blood Debts series is that even tho it deals with racism and systemic oppression, and even tho there are white villains, the main heroes and villains are from OUR community. This is very much a story about Black peopleโs business.
Iโm reminded of the people I grew up around that believed 100% of Indigenous folks were eradicated during American colonization. Many probably still believe that to this day.
If youโre not making it โcoolโ rn to learn & read, the kids wonโt do it. And this will be what becomes of true history.

Have people discussed how rage baity Threads is as an app?
Every time I click onto it, thereโs someone new folks are mad at, something to cry about, or another current event for my growing list titled โThings That Trigger My Anxiety.โ
I dunno if itโs the same or worse than Twitter.
I know this is late but 10k in a day?? ๐ณ
Putting spiders on my timeline is an instant block. Sorry. Iโm a staunch Arachnophobe.
Whatโs the scariest thing you can say to an author, and why is it the word โRevisionsโ?
I'm ready.
A book review graphic for Flamboyants by George M. Johnson made by @dbg.was.here on Instagram. This is a young adult nonfiction of illustrated biographies, 144 pages long and 2 hours in audiobook format. The featured quote is โThe reality, however, is that queerness is as old as heterosexuality.โ The summary reads: "Trans and queer people didnโt appear out of nowhere in the last 30 years. Weโve always been here. Just take a look at the Black revolutionaries of the Harlem Renaissance for proof. In Flamboyants, we celebrate fourteen Black LGBTQ+ icons and artists who lived boldly so generations after them could thrive. As Johnson expresses, โhow do you know where you are going if you donโt even know where your people have been?โ My verdict: Get in loser, weโre inspired! Encouraging, informative, candid.

The slide details a bulleted list of โwhat I learned,โ which reads: โThe Harlem Renaissance, when Black artists took risks following WWI, was one of the queerest periods in world history. Learning about Alain Locke and Richard Bruce Nugent, two gay Black writers who should be revered as legendary voices. Ballroom has been around since the 1800s! Langston Hughes wrote about a ball with cross-dressing attendees.โ At the bottom, it reads: Did you have a different takeaway? What were your favorite parts? Iโd love to know what you think. If youโre interested in constructive discussion on any of the books Iโve shared, meet me on Instagram.
A book review graphic for Flamboyants by George M. Johnson made by @dbg.was.here on Instagram. The slide details a bulleted list of โwhat youโll love,โ which reads: โEssays that prove Black queer people have been at the forefront of culture and creativity since the beginning. Celebrating legendary Black leaders who were mistreated or forced to hide in their time. Meeting Zora Neale Hurston, a Black writer who has had a recent resurgence among Black visionaries after being nearly erased from history.โ At the bottom, it reads: you check this out? What content inspires you to read? Iโd love to know what you think. If youโre interested in constructive discussion on any of the books Iโve shared, meet me on Instagram.
Letโs be clear: Black queer history IS Black History! Anyone who tells you differently is misinformed.
George M. Johnson said, โWe are too disconnected from our rootsโ and they're right. Flamboyants is a great start toward correcting that. (1/3)

Itโs sooo fulfilling rereading old drafts and liking most of what you wrote. Like, sometimes I shock myself by what I put down.
Marvel Rivals is very addicting. Itโs eating into my writing time ๐
We both gotta do better ๐ฉ๐ญ
Lmaooo
Most definitely. The amount of work I need to do hits me like a freight train every time it loads up ๐ฉ
Opened my manuscript today to do some revisions and immediately clicked off and did something else insteadโฆ why am I like this.
Most Black folks knew this nonsense was coming. It's wrong, but we've always had to hustle, so I feel like collectively we'll be all right. But I also can't help thinking that a whole lot of white people, deprived of the "DEI" excuse, are about to get a wake-up call about their own mediocrity.
If thereโs a YA adaptation on the horizon, one thing you can guarantee is Amandla Stenberg gone sneak her way in there somehow.
Omg what is this???
More Black girls in high fantasy doing fun things, coming right up dear! ๐ โจ we have 4 day to fund our animation on Kickstarter! Check us out and pledge if you can! Thank you!
