PS quite funny they tried to make a sensational headline out of this when it just… isn’t.
@mldavies
Victorian lady invalid, lying in bed surrounded by books. Long covid, ME, other ailments. Bylines in The Sick Times, Electric Lit, Jezebel, etc; cohost of Overinvested pod in absentia; picking away at a novel. she/her https://linktr.ee/morganleighdavies

Like obvs there are dumbasses who watch five movies all year, only vote for their friends, and/are horrible bigots, but I do think they mostly make an effort. This shows her doing that and also that the personal stuff does affect decision making (as it inevitably would)
Definitely didn’t agree with everything (Teyana is the best part of that movie imo & part of that is her character being messy, and how she talks about Geeta is very revealing… it’s a popularity contest!) but I agree this is really refreshing. And imo a lot more representative of the average voter!
#LongCovid folks, if anyone has an extra 1-3 metrix tests you’d be willing to sell me + send in the mail this weekend, you’d be doing me a big favor
it is evil.
i know a lot of my fellow liberals dont like to use that word. but im happy to use it when the shoe fits. these kids need to be protected, not attacked. going after them for craven political purposes -- any purpose -- is evil. and those who do so should burn in hell for all eternity.
A major literary website publishing a (terribly written) piece about how reviews are bad in March 2026 is just so bad I don't know what to say. Reckon with your souls people.
The internet has killed reviews! Just because you weren't reading them doesn't mean they didn't exist! All the prominent authors she cites discovering and loving in this "essay" gained prominence through... REVIEWS!
Why is @lithub.com.web.brid.gy publishing this ahistorical trash? "I am lucky enough ... to have grown up in a mostly pre-internet world. A pre-internet world was also a mostly pre-review world. There were reviews in magazines and newspapers of course, but I wasn’t reading them."
Ohtani cranks a grand slam in team Japan’s first game of the 2026 WBC.
In Tokyo.
Blessed to be alive to see this. Sound UP.
I also stood next to Lupita Nyong’o at the bathroom sinks. A memorable evening!!
Incredible production. It’s my favorite Shakespeare too :)
I’ve surely told you I won the ticket lottery for that for the only time in my life and he burst out the door in his underwear literally right next to me and my friend and I basically perished
1. This didn’t happen, and 2. Has this person Rip Van Winkle’d and missed the last 20 years??
Coming up next on Overinvested: Claire and I review three Best Picture nominees: Bugonia, Marty Supreme, and The Secret Agent!
And on Patreon, we're going to release our annual rundown of the full Oscar slate, featuring predictions and awards season insight from Oscars expert @mldavies.bsky.social!
Odysseus had his crew lash him to the mast to keep him from doing an interview with Chotiner.
good fucking luck dude
Also I’m sorry any essay that makes broad arguments about white woman writers is a joke, people are doing all kinds of different shit! There is no universal norm here!
Kannan is basically arguing that Cash has a responsibility to engage with contemporary politics, and also racial politics, in her book, which is a completely America in 2026 point of view divorced from the history of fiction.
Art is not obligated to serve a political or moral function!
Once again, people need to chill the fuck out about this book. (Honor Levy I have no time for.) www.vulture.com/article/made...
Bad film!!! letterboxd.com/mldavies/fil...
I honestly don’t understand how you can adapt a book when you understand nothing about what it is trying to achieve artistically, but I guess by definition you wouldn’t realize that.
Every challenging and confronting thing in the novel has been replaced by gloopy sentiment. It’s unreal.
Watching TRAIN DREAMS for Oscar purposes and it is almost funny how deeply Denis Johnson would hate this movie.
That’s why they’re also targeting Iranian opposition figures who actually have support among Iranians while Western outlets and politicians parade the Shah’s son despite the Shah not ruling Iran in 40+ years. The Shah was not accountable to the Iranian people.
Absolutely screaming at the cameo ending Industry’s season finale I’m not going to spoil it but when I say “screaming” know that’s not a euphemism I did actually scream
Same here unfortunately
I feel decidedly mixed about MBJ as a person given his stanch support of Jonathan Majors, literal convicted domestic abuser, but he’s great in this and having three competitive acting races has basically not happened in my memory???
I LOVE CHAOS
Correct!!
Today should be your 38th birthday.. When you lose your son you lose more than a child you lose a piece of your heart and your joy. Life is forever altered, and nothing can ever fill that space. Yet in my soul, he remains, my precious boy, forever loved. His laughter, his smile, and his love are woven into who I am. My love for him will never fade. Yor are my pride and my joy - you've made a change that cannot be broken..
Alex's mom on his 38th birthday.
I am not into this.
