Oh hey, I'm conference friends with Ada's wife! Small world
My feed is overwhelmed with scientists right now calling out the catastrophic consequences of the NIH indirect cost order from last night. If those same people aren't also speaking out against the anti-trans, anti-DEI, anti-immigrant orders...we are lost. The only path forward is solidarity.
I did anticipate going to DC for AGU right after a major discrimination case for trans rights. I didn't anticipate doing it during a DC bathroom ban spin-up, and the combo is a bit hard to handle
My guess is that a lot of trans people will be feeling a ton of stress and worry over SCOTUS today.
If you are a cis person, quote this and say why you support trans people and what you are willing to do to support us if the government comes for us.
I think it's important to never lose sight of the fact that there is nothing organic about the anti-trans legislation.
It's all a part of a large pys-op by Christian Nationalist groups.
There was actually backlash to early anti-trans bills🧵

For @xtramagazine.com I wrote about Julia's national call for action and the need for trans people and our family, friends, and allies to call our representatives and senators.

For Julia Serano's "LGBTQ+ People Are Not Going Back" action, I wrote about the many potential meanings of the phrase "identity politics," and what constitutes an "unreasonable" demand: jude-doyle.ghost.io/lgbtq-people...
Thank you to @juliaserano.bsky.social for organizing this action. Here’s my contribution, in conversation with her call to us:

When Rep. Sarah McBride ceded trans rights in Congress, I was moments from publishing an article against transphobia in her defense.
Today, I’m publishing both my original defense and a lengthy critique of it and Sarah’s actions as a part of #LGBTQNotGoingBack action with @juliaserano.bsky.social.
Here is my #LGBTQNotGoingBack post, which includes a MASTER LIST of everyone else's posts! plus instructions for how to be added to this lists & how to call your representatives today!

trans day of just leave us the fuck alone
I left it there for the fun Fe oxidation color change and now it looks like this
Hey, my friend and coauthor is presenting at this! You should go, you'll learn lots I swear!
It’s pretty wild to sit here and listen to conservatives argue that I shouldn’t be allowed to exist and liberals argue about whether saying “trans people should be allowed to exist” is too controversial of a political decision to take.
True but also "Discover" and "Popular with friends" are both algorithmic
Also, I remembered that the "adult content" feature throws ridiculous false positives at the hint of a bra/swim top or the concept of cleavage (at least it used to) so a lot of innocuous photos can be labeled as explicit. With the "no adult content" filter on, a lot of those get removed from feeds
Oh and also, the banner size ratio is really weird, back in the day this tool was made to fix that issue:

This app was built by sex worker and trans woman, don't you forget it!

Update I looked at it again and did see alr text but I still think those are really cool features!
I didn't see alt text in there? Alt text is searchable and also allows photos to be muted. It's a big strength of the platform
Interesting. I liked the second best because I'm a big unreliable narrator fan

Hi Jess! Nice to see you here. I research mCDR (and also have gotten a faculty job since we last met at OCB!), would you mind adding me to the pack?

“a large group of funny, talented trans posters were the earliest adopters of Bluesky and were able to forge the platform into what it is today: funny, frequently horny, and with very strong moderation tools. If you like Bluesky’s vibe right now, thank a trans person,” journalist Katelyn Burns said
