Design for the Mind – A toolkit for cognitive inclusion A Neuro-Inclusive guide to consider the different sensory responses to an environment that some people may experience.

Post 3/3:
If you struggle with this, check out the BBC CAPE cognitive toolkit. It gave me a framework to understand what I need to thrive.

Your environment isn't just "decor"—it's an accessibility consideration. 🧠✨

Through trial and error, I’ve realised my brain can't just "filter out" background noise like others can.
❌ Bright strip lighting
❌ Open-plan offices
❌ Loud phone calls nearby

To many, these are minor gripes. To me, they are fundamental barriers to doing my best work.

We talk about 'productivity hacks,' but rarely about the 'sensory drag' that kills focus before the workday begins.

I’m in Dundee this week for a workshop. Normally, I’d work at a cramped hotel room desk. Today, I found a reception area with soft lighting, comfy chairs, and quiet music.

Neurodivergence isn't always a barrier; it can be a different way of navigating the world that leads to incredible places. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

One of the most moving moments was working with a group of dyslexic pupils who made me an honorary member of their group with a "Change Makers" badge. 🏅

I got quite emotional.

Sometimes the most impactful thing you can do is simply be seen.

If they see someone from the BBC talking openly about neurodivergence, hopefully they see there’s life beyond the struggles of the classroom.

School can be tough, but there’s a whole world where ND folk are doing brilliant, creative things because of how they think.

Every time I say it, I watch for heads turning and eyes lighting up. Sometimes I even get a shout-back: “I’m dyslexic too!”

Growing up, I didn’t know any adults who were neurodivergent, and certainly none who spoke about it openly.
I want to change that.

“These packs are brilliant for me, because I find it difficult taking in dense facts in long screeds of text. I’m dyslexic, and I suspect ADHD plays a part in my brain wiring, too.” 🧠✨

2/7 At the start of each workshop, we show the pupils brilliant fact packs created by Liv Simister. They’re colorful, visual, and broken into digestible chunks—perfect for helping us build our scripts.

But I always make a point of saying something specific to the class:

1/7 After 4+ years delivering outreach at BBC Scotland, I still feel so lucky to travel the country teaching pupils how to make films and podcasts.

Watching them go from scripting to presenting is a joy—and let’s be honest, it’s got to be better than maths! 🎥🎙️

Mini Challenge with CDT for AI in Digital Media Inclusion What inspired the team to get involved and what they think the future holds for the project

Post 4/4
The future of AI isn't just about utility; it’s about how it makes us feel and how it supports our actual goals.

2️⃣ The Intention Economy
The old model used dopamine loops to keep you scrolling. The new model asks: "What are you trying to do?"

Using Agentic Frameworks, AI becomes a goal-aligned partner that respects your time and mental space. 🤝

1️⃣ Emotional Access & "Rest Positive" UX Digital spaces often cause cognitive overload. We’re advocating for systems that detect overwhelm and respond with ‘temporal whitespace’—intentional breaks that allow for mental processing and self-regulation. 🧘‍♂️

Are we moving from an Attention Economy to an Intention Economy? 🧠✨

We recently collaborated the @ukri.org CDT team at Surrey University to explore a vital question:
How do we build AI that truly adapts to human emotion?

The results were brilliant - A mini-thread on what we found: 👇

As we move closer to releasing our first three apps @tenkin-studios.bsky.social , navigating the tension between 'low friction'and 'premium feel' is a conversation Simon and I keep returning too. We're really looking forward to hearing if the Portal Pass community think we've got the balance right 👇

J Dilla's work has had a huge impact on me.
I had no idea Detroit's finest was so heavily influenced by the UK music scene.
For any J Dilla fans, this documentary is a must from @bbcradio1xtrabot.bsky.social 🙌 👏 🔥https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002qw1l

I spend a bit of time this morning writing about the profound effect my Transformers holographic stickers had on me as a young boy. I'm hoping we can re-create some of that magic across the apps we build @tenkin-studios.bsky.social . 📟 🍱 🦋
