I don't read stuff like this so there is that, but there is also a very obvious effort NOT to write a scene, or a moment, or character that might unsettle the reader. It's very careful like that. Yes, I know that's the point, this is just me relating my experience reading this material.
I don't want to be disrespectful to Rachel Reid, but as far as I have experienced her writing, her characters don't really have much of an interior life in my opinion. I don't feel a strong beating heart under the dialogue or feel that a character is off doing something when not in a scene.
