Our coalition and the City Council fought back, and didn't just restore funding, but expanded Sunday service to branches in every borough.

Excellent strategy begins with an accurate assessment of conditions; this year, @peoplesplannyc.bsky.social really hit the mark.
Back in August, the coalition's steering committee orgs rightly anticipated that the best way to affect the outcome of the city budget would be via the mayoral primary. 🧵
Because most of @peoplesplannyc.bsky.social's steering committee consists of orgs with related entities that can engage in elections, the coalition's individual steering committee orgs shifted their focus to electoral intervention.
The results:
1️⃣ Restoration of most of the funding for popular programs Eric Adams had cut when he took office, plus some new investments;
AND
2️⃣ The strengthening of @peoplesplannyc.bsky.social as the primary coalition building inside-outside co-governing power in NYC.

ENOUGH. We’re fed up with an undemocratic & unfair budget process that steamrolls NYers. Next up: STRUCTURAL CHANGE.
We’ll be organizing for reform to rebalance budget power & ensure services aren’t at the mercy of rogue & unaccountable politicians like Eric Adams ever again.
