I think Britain kinda tried this with NI in the 80s. Ngl, didn't work out that great for us.

If we scored 5 goals, and Phillips scored three goals, how many goals did other players score?...

There is a lot more of me. My hair has shrunk though.

Was that Portsmouth or derby?

Scientists laud life-changing drug for children with resistant form of epilepsy Preliminary trials into Zorevunersen find drug to be safe and well tolerated by those with Dravet syndrome Scientists have hailed a potentially life-changing drug for children with a hard to treat form of epilepsy, after promising early clinical trial results. Dravet syndrome is a genetic disorder which causes treatment resistant epilepsy and is often accompanied by speech and developmental delays. About 3,000 people are thought to have the condition in the UK. Current treatments aim to control the number and severity of seizures, but often do not work. Continue reading...

HMS Irresistible sinking during the Dardenelles campaign, having proved to everybody's satisfaction that the name might just have been a teeny-tiny bit premature after all.

If I'd rushed into a poorly planned campaign around a notorious maritime choke point that left it closed to friendly shipping I'd carefully lay off the Churchill comparisons, but hey...

When someone says β€žScientists do not want you to knowβ€œ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

What they’re basically saying is that Starmer and the UK isn’t allowed to operate an even moderately independent foreign policy outside of the United States. That is both ahistoric, wrong and weird for people who constantly tell us how sovereignty is what matters most.

The fact that Isabel Oakeshott, economic migrant to the UAE may just turn into a refugee fleeing to the UK from a war zone will cause a level of schadenfreude in me that may just make me topple right over.

It will be far harder to judge visually in the absence of VAR and will likely lead to more teams choosing to play with a low block.

He's generally a bright guy, but this is a stupid person's idea of a clever idea. Only sounds good if you managed peak Thierry Henry.

It may not have been super clear!

02.03.2026 16:45 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Probably optimistic, but...

1. If there is holding by any defender and by any attacker then FK to defense (doesn't matter who holds 1st)
2. Lower threshold for penalising holding

Theory being attackers stop holding because they know they'll concede FKs. Defenders then have to stop or concede pens.

I have not claimed that British Muslims have any great affinity for Iran. I have already clarified that that's not my claim if it was originally unclear.

Im not going to continue that line of discussion with you any further.

02.03.2026 16:32 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I also stand by the observation that at least some, perhaps even many, Sunni Muslims can hold no love for Shia Muslims and also strongly believe that the West has no place whatsoever intervening in the Middle East.

02.03.2026 16:30 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Are you contending that British Muslims don't have an affinity with the middle East and the Arab region?

Because that's my point, and I'm not going to get dragged down into a bad faith argument about something different.

02.03.2026 16:27 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, but we're talking about british Muslims.

02.03.2026 16:21 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I was responding to the comment that most British Muslims aren't Arabs. They aren't, but they do go on Hajj to Mecca.

They do tend to have some affinity with the region, what with it being the site of their holiest places.

This is true, although otoh there may also be a considerable element of "stop doing shit in the middle east" regardless?

Now is not the time to be diffident on nato or to be proposing unilateral disarmament. Rightly or wrongly in a general election a lot of people will be thinking about whether polanski is a potential PM before making their X.

I hope he doesn't fluff his lines like Corbyn did.
