A poor soul has just discovered I'm Irish
YIKES π±
haha yup. I try not to be annoyed but it's one of those things I just vent about and then move on with my day. I feel for the ones we end up cancelling because ultimately it delays patient care
the fun part is, we don't even use biofire or other commercial kits because of the cost! nearly all the PCR tests in my department are laboratory-developed because they're cheaper. I work in public health under the government so naturally they don't wanna give us money π
I think it's this coupled with some hospital LIS' only having the option for "virus culture", so they print the req and send to us (public health lab) lol. we give certain tests based on the sample type, but some we'll outright cancel and tell them to specify what they want (ie throat swabs)
playing SV on Switch 2 has been a lot of fun which is why I'm thinking of going back to Arceus. they both run a lot better and it's just nice
should I go back to this insanely stupid idea
maybe I'm back on bsky solely to just post any random stupid thought that comes to my mind. if you followed me BC I'm an MLT, unfortunately I am stupid outside of work π
Cakegate was the last time I actually enjoyed tiktok
I promise taking 10 extra seconds to write or type exactly what viruses you're looking for will be much easier for everyone. I know you're busy. so are we. we don't have time to play mind reader on top of that.
one time someone called us and asked if we could run our viral panel. like we're just testing every sample with one huge, broad panel of viral targets. when asked to specify, they said they wanted all of them.
......no. be specific, ffs
also irrationally annoyed when they just write "viral" under test requested.
can you take 15 more seconds and specify? fuckin hell man
I get irrationally annoyed by physicians ordering "virus culture" at my work. everything is PCR. everything we can test is literally online.
it would take them less time to write the virus they're looking for.
you know that mystery island in animal crossing that spawns a bunch of tarantulas?
that's what an araquanid outbreak in Pokemon SV is like
We Won Against Youtube. Two and a half years later, I've had a large amount of my content restored. Thank you so much everyone www.youtube.com/watch?v=z8TB...
I'm hot (it's 40C outside and I am melting)
yeah no I don't use discover lol. I get a lot of politics because I follow a lot of health professionals in ... the states.. so it's hard to miss lol
before I go again, Swiss was put to sleep a little over a month ago. we found a (probable) tumour, which his heart was compensating for for a while. I never knew his age, but I had him for nearly 4.5 years. I brought him and Hammy home a few weeks before my dad passed away.
Popcorn free, Swiss π
alright aside from the current state of.. everything, loading up bsky was probably not a good idea because I just wasted an hour doing... ???? I don't even know.
back to pokemon
I've largely been off Twitter and bsky lately because the current state of the world and the united states in particular is a fucking dumpster fire to my already semi fragile mental health
may be time to find tune my feed here
anyways hi I'm alive
very into dresses lately
I come on this app, I scroll for a bit, I feel sad about the world, and then I leave again for a month
oops
Screenshot of a news release saying: "The Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and its partners are focused on keeping people and animals in Canada safe and ensuring Canada is ready for any potential health threats. This includes taking proactive measures to protect the health of people in Canada by authorizing and securing the supply of a human vaccine against avian influenza as part of our readiness and potential use, as needed, based on risk conditions. Leveraging an existing agreement, PHAC has secured an initial supply of 500,000 doses of GSKβs human vaccine against avian influenza β ArepanrixTM H5N1 A/American wigeon clade 2.3.4.4b. This vaccine will be used as part of Canadaβs contingency planning to protect people who may be at increased risk of being exposed to the virus through animals infected with avian influenza."

"you can't put common sense in a [standard operating procedure]" -- legendary quote from one of my senior technologists in our monthly department meeting
this is why I'm gonna be sad when he retires
honestly, not being super active on twitter or bsky has been nice
it's also flu season and we're getting obliterated at work, and they won't reduce the percentage of samples for Influenza subtyping because of Avian Influenza concerns π«
nice @vinny.vinesauce.com
saying "go birds" but just rooting for birds in general, hope they're having fun and not catching that flu
defeat one (1) togetic took so fucking long and I'm glad I only need one to complete it
newest dumb idea is getting all pokedex tasks in Legends Arceus.. at least until I get bored
