For 𝘗𝘰𝘰𝘳 𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴, the problem is "poornography" - a representational politics of poverty. For 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘗𝘭𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘦𝘴, it is the silence of a philosophical discussion of inequality and "sufficientarianism." Both books are carefully researched and - importantly - deeply provocative.

They are oppositional at first glance. The books take up two issues—poverty and inequality—and explain how one is overemphasized over the other. The fact that I’m convinced by the importance of both, however, suggests how these two issues remain oversimplified.
