So yeah, Beastars the anime is a really good second draft. Could've used more polishing for sure, but I'll always applaud them for getting creative and doing their own thing to truly benefit the characters I love. It'll always be a cult classic story with niche reach, but... us furries ate good

Honestly something I wish more adaptations would do. If the source material is a mess, clean it up or just do your own thing with it. Faithful adaptations of poorly written stories are usually still bad (even if they present it way better like MHA's anime did for example).

The manga just went so far off the rails into weird shonen territory and couldn't keep track of its million concepts and characters and twists. It's endearingly annoying in a fun way, so I can't outright hate it, but the anime just did laps around it in the end and cut basically all the bullshit.

But man they really did just take all of Paru's worst ideas and throw them in the trash lmao. If the manga was a sloppy first draft, this was still a messy second draft, but at least there's some polish here and everything works as a coherent story.

Finished this just now. It's a huge (if flawed) improvement from the manga's shitshow final arc in basically every way. A bit slow in the middle and a bit rushed at the end, but the anime never lost sight of what the story was about like the manga did. Consider me satisfied 😌

This manga/anime made me feel so seen in a very dark, lonely time in my life, and while I'm sad it's finally ending, I'm glad it impacted me as much as it did the past six years. Wouldn't be who I am today and creating the things I do without it tbh
