EXCLUSIVE: This tech has been used to track heads of state, journalists, and maybe even you.
@lighthousereports.com uncovered a vast surveillance empire whose untraceable tech has been used to target people in more than 100 countries.
It has operated under the radar for decades. Until now.
A good post by Bruce Schneier: digital threat modeling under authoritarianism www.schneier.com/blog/archive...
Looking forward to presenting today with @itsibitzi.dev and @lambda.bsky.social at #rustconf!
The Guardian appβs own data flows make leaks indistinguishable from regular traffic β cutting off one of the easiest ways for a repressive government or a corporate boss to identify a leaker. www.niemanlab.org/2025/06/the-...
TODAY: GLAN, Sadaka and Al-Haq launch a multi-jurisdictional set of legal actions targeting #airbnb listings in Israelβs illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. Find out more: www.glanlaw.org/palestine-ai...

Incredibly proud to have been a part of the team that made this a reality. Congratulations on the launch!
My team launched this today! A new tip-off platform based on research from the University of Cambridge. It's been a great collaboration :)
For more technical details on the underlying protocol (CoverDrop) check out coverdrop.org
We launched CoverDrop π providing sources with a secure and anonymous way to talk to journalists. Having started five years ago as a PhD research project, this now ships within the Guardian app to millions of usersβall of which provide cover traffic. Paper, code, and more info: www.coverdrop.org
Blowing the whistle on wrongdoing has always taken bravery. Secure Messaging is an important new tool that will make it easier for people to share confidential information and tips with journalists at the Guardian. theguardian.com/securemessaging_launch
Huge congratulations to @itsibitzi.dev, @lambda.bsky.social, Dominick Kendrick, @hoy.la, Sabina Bejasa-Dimmock, @mariosavarese.com, Philip McMahon, Marjan Kalanaki, Chloe Kirton, and everyone else involved!
You can read more about Secure Messaging here: www.theguardian.com/membership/2...
Secure Messaging protects sources against network adversaries by making their communication indistinguishable from data sent to and from the app by our millions of regular users. By using the Guardian app, readers are effectively providing 'cover' and helping us to protect journalistic sources.
Over the last year Iβve had the privilege of contributing to @theguardian.comβs Secure Messaging feature alongside my incredible colleagues. Launched today, Secure Messaging is a new way for whistleblowers to communicate anonymously with journalists within the Guardian news app.
SCOOP: Researchers from China are to be allowed access to half a million UK GP records despite western intelligence agenciesβ fears about the authoritarian regime amassing health data. My latest @theguardian.com investigation.

Today we published the story. We identified 402 listings located on illegal settlements across the West Bank - 350 on Airbnb and 52 on Booking.com. These included 18 Airbnbs in outposts - settlements considered illegal under Israeli, as well as international law.
Since last summer Iβve been working with brilliant colleagues at the Guardian on an investigation into how two of the worldβs biggest tourism companies, Airbnb and Booking.com, are helping Israeli settlers profit from stolen Palestinian land in the West Bank.
