This is so funny, and so sweet, that I'm reading snippets out loud to my husband.
Oh, good! I felt that if they did a July 4th show without furries it would be criminal.

Mezzotint print by Craig McPherson, titled "Edgar Thomson", from 1997. It shows a steel mill at night. It's black and glaring lights, and billowing smoke. It makes me think of the description of Pittsburgh as "Hell with the lid taken off".
Craig McPherson, American, b. 1948 Edgar Thomson (left, 1997 Mezzotint Clairton, From the Hill (right), 2006 Graphite on paper These large-scale works depict two of the last remaining steel and coke plants in the region with direct ties to Henry Clay Frick and now owned by U.S. Steel. They are from McPherson's steel series, developed over the course of twenty years and inspired by visits to his wife's family in nearby Braddock. McPherson's creations contemplate the legacy of extractive industries that marred both the land and the people of the region for generations. Societal change over the last century, especially regarding labor and environmental conservation, has improved conditions for workers and the local environment, but risks remain. A fatal explosion occurred at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works on August 11, 2025. Craig McPherson's piece called "Clairton, From the Hill", from 2006. The scene is mostly veiled by smoke.
Pittsburgh's small Frick museum is currently displaying 2 depictions of steel and coke plants. The description posted next to them ends with "A fatal explosion occurred at the U.S. Steel Clairton Coke Works on August 11, 2025."
I think @ginny.bsky.social will be interested to hear about the Frick's Lewis Hines exhibit -- it mentions the Pittsburgh Survey!

For the past year, the when the nurse asks if I'm depressed or anxious, I'm like "Not clinically, but the world is fucked." This usually ends with me offering a bag of buttons, and them choosing between RESIST, PROTECT TRANS PEOPLE, and the like.
Since moving to Northern Kentucky last summer, I've had fewer respiratory issues than I did while living in Pittsburgh. Less coughing, less congestion, and generally better feeling.
