The volume of crude production that Iraq has *already* shut-in is larger than the peak of *feared* [but never realized] Russian supply loss in early 2022 that spiked crude prices above $120 per barrel.

Really dig this tool. Not just recommendations, but carefully researched discussions of the strengths and drawback of tech from common to obscure.
Same gas crisis hit Pakistan much harder. Unlike Europe, it couldn't afford to pay for price-y LNG, so it suffered blackouts. Then businesses and homeowners took matters in their own hand. Got solar first, and then as pattern dictates, went for batteries next. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Fossilflation getting to you? There's an easy 2-step fix to get off fossil fuels.
Now, to do that proactively, anticipating the next geopolitical crisis...
Good morning with good news: Battery capacity doubles by 2027 & often firms solar!
Utility-scale solar jumps 49% (~70 GW) by 2027!
Solar is often low-cost option.
Utility-scale solar, small-solar, wind & hydro will generate ~29% of USA's electricity in 2027.

US solar continues to surge, with utility-scale solar capacity increasing 49% by 2027 from 2025 levels.
Small solar generated more than 2% of US electricity in 2025.
Renewables plus nuclear are on track to generate ~47% of US electricity by 2028.

I also keep hearing about not just zero carbon cement, but stuff that's actually carbon negative. Still need to see it be cheap at scale, but if the world would switch to carbon negative cement it would bring huge progress towards maintaining a livable planet.
This is great! I knew Purdue had an agrivoltaics research program going, but I didn't know they would be partnering with Mammoth Solar in Northern Indiana. It will be the largest solar project in the US upon completion.
December 2025 through February 2026 was the 2nd warmest winter on record for the Contiguous U.S. according to Prism climate data. The widespread record to near record warmth in the west easily outweighed the cool temps in the east. π₯π₯π₯

They were going to pass rules to phase out gas stoves, until they received 20,000 public comments against the regulations. Except, oops, it turns out the comments were generated by AI.
uh-oh. A billion years ago I volunteered on Parliament Hill, and we used to count 1 letter as 10,000 opinions. That's obviously a broken relationship now.
Clergy members and immigrant rights activists demonstrated outside two Denver apartment buildings owned by Highlands REIT. They urged the company not to profit off of Trumpβs deportation plans and end its relationship with ICE and private-prison company The GEO Group.

Todayβs shocking data confirms our housing crisis is getting worse while the Trump Administration refuses to act.
Prices are high, home sales are down. The end result? Fewer people can buy homes.
βWe donβt really need it anymore. We donβt need to be setting things on fire.β π

Equinox EV now at Civic prices. 319 mi range. Multiple dealers. I'm looking for the catch, but can't find one.
At low gas prices, fuel costs +/- same as a Civic. YMMV.
Did not expect to see this after the expiration of the Federal tax credit. Probably won't last long.
Indian government allocated $32 b for capital expenditures on its railways in 2026. This includes initial funds for 7 additional high-speed lines on 2,500 mi, adding to the 316 mi MumbaiβAhmedabad Line, now under construction (the US Northeast Corridor is 450 mi). www.railjournal.com/passenger/hi...
When itβs EVs:
βThe grid will collapse from EV electricity demand!!β
When itβs data centers:
βWe need to build nuclear plants and gas fired plants to meet demand!β

California used 40% less natural gas to produce electricity in 2025 than it did in 2023. "Thatβs the kind of number, that if we spread it around the world, would make a difference in how hot the Earth gets," @billmckibben.bsky.social says. And California isn't alone.
