- Tomorrow morning, I’ll go buy a caulk gun and try again when I return.

Time to shower, order dinner delivered, and watch a movie.

- But even after scrubbing my hands until my skin was raw, I still have caulk under my nails and in some small bits on my skin that just will not wash off.

- But I thought I could still just use my gloved hand to get it out of the bottom of the tube. And then the finger of the glove tore. Sooo…that was not ideal.

I did use the contents of the tube. And it actually looks fine on the walls where I applied it. -

- I thought I could just squeeze the tube to get it out and apply it with my finger. I had vinyl gloves, so I thought that would be fine. Spoiler: it was not fine. The bottom of the tube popped out. I got sticky caulk all over my shirt, my ungloved left hand that was holding the tube. -

- Got home. It needs a caulking gun. I did not get one. Nor do we have one here. I used to. Back in the US. I just totally forgot we didn’t have them here. Soooo… -

Welp. I had an unfortunate mishap. Totally my own stupid fault, but ugh. I realized it would be easier to fix some of the big cracks in the corners of the room and along the edge of the ceiling with paintable caulk. So we went and got three tubes of the stuff. Great. -

This morning I am imagining a friendlier and more forgiving world 💜🧡

- I definitely should be able to finish the repair work today and begin painting tomorrow. Wahoo!

I know it won’t be perfect, but that’s okay. It’s going to be a zillion times better than the dirty sad storage room it’s been.

This morning, mom wiped down the walls and I chopped and chipped out bad plaster. Then I started slathering on the wall repair plaster. It didn’t take long to realize that I also need paintable caulk for the large cracks. Thus, we’re off to the mall to get some, as well as a nice lunch for morale. -

I am. It’s about 25 minutes away by car.

- all those things. There are those in power who want us to be numb, immobilized, desensitized, indifferent. I refuse to comply. My emotions are an act of deep defiance in the face of their sociopathy, cruelty, and malice, and I own and embrace them fully.

Some days feel heavy on the soul, with layer upon layer of heartache, fear, rage, and grief. I’ve had several of those days in succession this week, each morning bringing new unimaginable horrors. But I think it’s important not to ignore those feelings. We have them for a reason. Those emotions -

We’re so excited!!

Looking into the summer kitchen, from left to right, there is a stack of unassembled black chairs beside the door, in front of a white kitchen cabinet with a laminated wood-look top, a wide drawer above two doors, all with black knobs. On top of the cabinet are some random instruction sheets for a different project. There is an empty space to the right against the wall where an old gas stove used to live, but it has long since been removed. This is where a new electric oven/range will live. To the right of that space is a steel double sink with drainboard atop a white lower cabinet with three drawers for storage below. Above the sink and stove area is an orange-brown ceramic tile backsplash, which is functional but ugly and very dated. Above that is a bare bulb on a wire protruding from the wall which will be the future home of a wall light. Above the drainboard is a light switch for this over sink light and an outlet. The walls and ceilings of the room are white, and the vinyl flooring is old and stained. To the right of that are two rolling shopping bags carts which contain paint and supplies for the work I’ll be doing.

We cleared out all the things from the summer kitchen (except a cabinet and some chairs that need assembly since it’s going to rain this afternoon). Mom is sweeping now, and later we will wipe down, sand, and mop everything. Then tomorrow, I start fixing cracks.

We got it! Originally 649€, now 199€. 💃🪩🕺 We also got a ceiling light, some sage green paint for the walls, the rollers and brushes, and some stuff to fix the cracks. I already have the flooring and a lower cabinet for the room. It’s going to be great! I can’t wait to get to work.

This afternoon, we are off to buy supplies so I can renovate our summer kitchen. We also found an electric oven/induction range for 199€, so we’re going to buy it and request delivery. I’m hoping to keep the total cost for renovation under 500€, if I do it myself (except the wiring). 🤞🏻
