An AI writing assistant has been added to a platform that is widely used for student projects. I discovered this today while I was teaching.

The AI agents are disabled by default. An administrator needs to turn them on.

Fascinating.

Well. A 60’ pine tree is leaning towards my window at a 45 degree angle. It does deep sideways dives with each gust.

I’m very attached to having trees outside my window.

I would like to continue having trees.

😬

I got to ride the shuttle around Logan after a gate change and everyone was bored or grouchy, but I’ve never seen an airport that way.

10/10 highly recommend.

Oops! Several medical schools recently stopped using actors, including transgender actors, to role play as patients with students. It’s all chatbots now.

Who could have guessed LLMs would treat these patients differently?

At 6:30, after a little nap, I carried the dog up the stairs. We both just needed to believe in me! 💪

It is 4:31am and we’re still stuck. I think I will be sleeping here until a neighbor wakes up that either a) excites her enough to walk the stairs or b) can carry her.

My apartment complex waxed the stairs. It’s 4am and we’re stuck on a landing.

If you’re looking for Spotify alternatives, at Tisch Library, we’re streaming our own playlist from the music online database. #DouglassDay

We already have a submission that's only a couple of hundred dollars more than the lowest submission we got in the AY19-20 spreadsheet.

This must be weird news to see if you’re one of the literally hundreds or even thousands of university administrators who preemptively censored faculty, scrubbed websites, changed the names of centers, etc.

Would UX researchers pay me for “atypical assurance testing.” Because I could do that.

I almost accidentally bought another half dozen donuts when I went back to see if that had actually happened or if I was dreaming.

I accidentally ordered a half-dozen assorted donuts on the mobile app this morning.

Pre-dawn on a holiday. Snug in bed. 6” of un-shoveled snow.

Idk, other than that I was curious. Can you be choosy about your half-dozen assorted on the mobile app?

No. And that button won’t take you there.

I was inspired to make this after an incident in 2020 where I was making apple cider donuts and encountered a critical error midway through. I'm experienced enough to know.

I found dozens of recipes that were the same, but had different pictures--a pre-AI recipe blog bot network.

In 2022, before Chat-GPT and when DALLE was still request-only, I made this AI recipe site to satirize recipe blogs.

I admit that the devil on my shoulder was whispering "aaad revenueee."

It took a weekend. It was fun. Now it just makes me sad.

This is excellent. Does anyone have the citation for the March 2024 paper referenced at 3:06, comparing ChatGPT to Jim Crow? Would like to read and assign.

Resisting GenAI and Big Tech in Higher Education

Tuesday 25th November 2025

8am - 9:30am PST | 11am -12:30pm EST | 4pm - 5:30pm GMT | 5pm - 6:30pm CET

Virtual on Zoom – REGISTER HERE: http://bit.ly/4qE27dB

Generative AI is permeating higher education in many different ways—it is increasingly embedded in university work and life, even if we don’t want to use it. But people are also sounding the alarm: Gen AI is disrupting learning and undermining trust in the integrity of academic work, while big tech’s energy consumption, use of water, and rapid expansion of data centers are exacerbating ecological crises.

What can we do? How do we resist? Come learn about the environmental, social, economic, and political threats that AI poses and how we can individually and collectively resist and refuse. Learn about how some are challenging the narrative of inevitability.

Join this interactive discussion with international scholars and activists on resisting GenAI and big tech in higher education. Inputs from multiple scholar-activists include: Christoph Becker (University of Toronto, Canada), Mary Finley-Brook (University of Richmond, USA), Dan McQuillan (Goldsmiths, University of London, UK), Sinéad Sheehan (University of Galway, Ireland), Jennie Stephens (National University of Ireland Maynooth, Ireland), and Paul Lachapelle (Montana State University, USA).

This event will be recorded and is co-sponsored by:
