I mean in comparison to every other mmorpg, Jagex is significantly less greedy (especially for osrs). Literally have to pay for new content w DLCs and MTX shops that are built into everything now. Im not going to pay at extra 30 to 60 bucks every time theyre dropping new content.
Swinging a massive book around as a melee animation would go so hard but then also having it open up for a 2h magic spell book concept would be so cool too!

Theyre just losing out on potential players if they make it one game. Right now the gulf between both games is massive but if Jagex wants to keep a large chunk of its playerbase, then having them migrate between the games in its lull and highs is the best since evey game thats old has this problem.
insane for me. To get new content, I have to get a dlc every time. I'm not gonna want to just play old content and still pay $15, not to mention because of how bad powercreep is in the older titles, a good chunk of the mid range worlds are just dead since progression has been gutted in both wow n ff
membership and it only covers one game (maybe rs3 since thats their original account from 08) then they wont ever touch osrs since they dont want to pay for another membership. Because theres access to two titles, you can completely move games without issues. Also paying for expansions is beyond
The thing is because both games exist in one membership package, it allows people to choose either the style of game they like without any issued. Early OSRS wouldnt have ever survived without this system and in the future, when people are still confused about this stuff and they buy a runescape

They really screwed over the folks who were paying the $6 stuff that temp went premier membership.
Ya I'm not happy with it but I hate the expansion model system with large chunks of money being charged to get new content. Rather it be this than that model.
I doubt they do that. Based on financials they shared, the last 3 years is when they finally started making money more via subscriptions than mtx. The best would be if they do that but that means theyre cutting out 2 massive forms of income in just one financial year.
They can pull away with it because they have tied two different games to it. Its in a very interesting situation where if you split it, they'd probably charge 10 to 12 per game per month but it would alienate the future returning/new player from one game or the other by doing this.
Its two different titles that are wrapped up in one subscription. I do think its pretty ridiculous price now though but 2 vastly different games for that cost where you can play whatever you feel like is pretty awesome imo.
Ya thats my biggest annoyance. That one just either tripled or quadrupled the amount certain folks are paying without any forewarning.
People using the price increase as an excuse to hate on RS3 is very not cool. Like seriously get over RS3 existing already. You can't blame it for everything.
My worry for a title as big as WoW is that eventually you will get to a point where certain eras of the world are just dead since WoW is struggling at their progression system. Half the fun is the journey to accomplish things and both FF/WoW devaluing progression for expansions is a scary concept.
If anything, I would be intrigued on a 2012 Scape version of RuneScape but I think they probably want stable RuneScape growth for the modern title before they add a third game to the membership benefit package. That would be way more interesting of a solution for the more than one character slot.
Ya Im not a fan of the head at the table of the title but I love the title(s). Ironically if bonds hadnt ever came about, I would have stayed as an F2P RuneScape player post 2010 for the most part. Now I do pay cash but I dont really splurge on anything for games anymore and just dont have free time
But that just means I'm missing out on the newest content releases, meanwhile both runescape titles have this feature built into their upfront cost. I dont think multiple characters of the same game can compare with having 2 massive mmo titles with content that have no definition of an end.
Nah it might be a hot take but Id gladly take the current model when progression isnt mtx'ified and I dont have to pay constant expansions on top of my monthly/yearly cycles. I know RS3 had mtx for progression but that 2012 to 2020 era the RuneScape title wouldnt have survived without the mtx stuff.
Expansions do the same thing as adding to the yearly cost when evened out. Not to mention 2 completely games with different game design and concept in one subscription. Playing multiple characters doesnt compare to that alone imo since the games are so vastly different.
Every other MMO pulls the expansion model which does the lets tack 30 to 50 dollars every year. Effectively making it the same cost as playing both RuneScape games in the cost value. They might not increase their prices but doing that significantly with all the mtx crap they pull makes them way more
Wont lie kind of disappointed that everyone expects RuneScape to not be able to increase their membership prices. They have massive expansions in both titles with constant updates but dont tag on a expansion fee like every other mmo while also having access to two of the biggest games w 1 account.
